Cooking without electricity

Cooking without electricity means relying on robust, independent gear that lets you prepare hot meals wherever access to the grid is limited or completely unavailable. This category focuses on practical equipment that allows you to boil water, cook, bake or simply reheat food using alternative heat sources such as gas canisters, solid fuel tablets, wood, charcoal, solar energy or chemical heat packs.

In cooking without electricity you will typically find compact gas and multi-fuel stoves for camping and survival, lightweight alcohol and solid fuel burners for ultralight trips, as well as wood‑burning rocket stoves and folding hobo stoves designed to work with twigs and other natural fuel. The offer is complemented by solar ovens and flameless or battery‑assisted systems developed for areas with high fire risk or strict open‑flame regulations. Matching cookware includes hard‑anodised aluminium pots, stainless steel kettles, nesting cook sets, heat‑resistant mugs, windshields and pot supports that improve efficiency in difficult weather.

This type of off‑grid cooking gear is used by preppers building home emergency kits for power outages, outdoor enthusiasts travelling off‑grid, bushcraft and trekking fans, overlanders, as well as rescue volunteers and other uniformed services operating in the field. Key parameters you should pay attention to are fuel type and availability, burn time, heat output, packed size and weight, durability of materials, and the ease of ignition and flame control. For longer expeditions you may prefer systems that can burn multiple fuels or use biomass collected on site, while for quick deployment in an emergency a simple canister stove or chemical heater can be the most reliable option.

Whether you are assembling a minimal camp kitchen, planning an off‑grid cabin setup or preparing for unexpected power cuts, cooking without electricity equipment helps you stay independent and maintain access to hot food and safe drinking water.
