Mil-Tec Pilot Sleeping Bag - Flecktarn

The sleeping bag is made from durable material in Flecktarn camouflage, featuring a mummy-style construction that allows for a comfortable sleeping position and freedom of movement. High-quality polyester is used, along with a hard-wearing outer layer and warm filling.

Temperatures and usage conditions

The temperature parameters of the Pilot sleeping bag have been set in accordance with ISO 23537-1:2022:

  • T-comfort: 4°C – the lowest temperature at which a woman can comfortably sleep through the night
  • T-limit: -1°C – the minimum temperature at which a man can sleep without feeling discomfort
  • T-extreme: -17°C – the minimum exposure temperature in the sleeping bag, not recommended for regular use

Polyester construction with soft lining

The outer layer is made from polyester that is moisture-resistant and easy to keep clean. The inside of the sleeping bag is lined with cotton, which is gentle on the skin.

Polyester filling

Synthetic polyester insulation provides lightness and protection against the cold. The quilted construction prevents the fibres from shifting, ensuring even heat distribution.

Zip on left side, protective flap

The model features a two-way zip located on the left side, which is secured with a velcro tab. On the inside there is a protective baffle to prevent snagging and heat loss. When unzipped, the sleeping bag can serve as a quilt, mattress, or bivvy; you can also join it with another sleeping bag.

Integrated hood for cold protection

Anatomically shaped hood increases head protection against cold.

Easy to carry and store

This model is easy to carry and store. When packed, the sleeping bag measures 40 x 24 x 29 cm and weighs 1700 g, making it convenient for travel without excessive baggage weight.

Set elements

The sleeping bag comes with a practical carrying pouch to protect it during transport and keep it safe from dirt or damage. The pouch is attached to the sleeping bag, minimising the risk of it being lost. The soft filling means the pouch can also be used as a pillow.

Flecktarn camouflage

Flecktarn is a classic German camouflage pattern, introduced to the Bundeswehr in 1990. Its distinctive design consists of irregular, small dots in five shades—most often dark green, olive, brown, black, and beige. The numerous spots and blurred colour boundaries make Flecktarn highly effective at breaking up outlines in forests, scrubland, and woodland groundcover. The pattern was developed for the climate of Europe, especially the temperate zone. Flecktarn is still used by the German army, other military formations, and the police, and thanks to its effectiveness, many variations and adaptations have been created in different countries.

    The sleeping bag was neatly and carefully packed by the manufacturer, but after unfolding it, I had trouble rolling it up again as well. I did not like the system of rolling it into the cover, which is permanently attached to the rest of the sleeping bag. Admittedly, I haven't checked how warm it is, but it seems to me that the thin filling will not provide enough warmth. The interior is indeed pleasant to the touch, but the exterior material is stiff and rustles. In the end, I returned the sleeping bag.

    The sleeping bag is pleasant to the touch, easy to unfold and fold. You can buy a compression sack if you wish, although that's down to personal preference. In temperatures above +10 degrees, when using thermal clothing, it's perfectly suitable for camping in a tent.

    The sleeping bag retains heat well and the idea of a pillow hidden in the cover is nice – it’s very comfortable to sleep on. Packing it can be difficult because there’s no bag, but with a bit of practice it becomes easier. The downside is the zip, which can get stuck, especially around the knees.
