Maskpol Base MAPA B Cap

Light military baseball cap in MAPA B camouflage, equipped with a curved brim, effectively protects against the sun. It is made from a blend of soft cotton and durable polyester in a 50/50 ratio. The material is characterised by its lightness, breathability, and pleasant texture to the touch. Thanks to the use of Rip-Stop weave, it features high resistance to abrasions and tears. Velcro panels allow for the attachment of emblems, and the adjustable fastening at the back ensures an excellent fit to the user’s head.

The cap is equipped with three velcro (hook-and-loop) panels, allowing the attachment of any patches or emblems, such as a national flag, unit emblem, or so-called Morale Patches, giving the cap an individual character. Additionally, on the strap allowing the adjustment of the circumference, there is an adjustable fastening, which enables an excellent fit to the user’s head.

The MAPA camouflage pattern, designed by Maciej Dojlitko, a graduate and research staff member of the Faculty of Architecture and Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, originates from the author of the publication Theory of Deconstruction of Visual Communication. Tools for Designing Military Camouflage (Gdańsk 2015). The innovative project, backed by convincing theoretical and experimental argumentation, including computer analysis of thousands of terrain photographs, has attracted the interest of specialists and military clothing manufacturers. The MAPA camouflage debuted at the International Defence Industry Exhibition in Kielce in 2017 as a camouflage pattern for the Dromader equipment and uniform system by Maskpol, part of the Polish Armaments Group. This system was developed with soldiers of the Territorial Defence Forces in mind, but the MAPA camouflage was also considered as a forward-looking pattern for the entire Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland, where it could replace the wz.93 camouflage. Unfortunately, to this day, the MAPA camouflage has not been introduced as the official camouflaging pattern of the Polish Armed Forces.

The main features of the MAPA camouflage in its basic woodland variant:

• colours optimised for operations in the forests of Central Europe
• use of three-dimensional illusion and anamorphic effect
• biomorphic shapes mimicking vegetation
• highly contrasting elements imitating light glints and shadows
• masking form deformation using a macro pattern
• colour noise reproduced with a micro pattern

The MAPA pattern is an intriguing alternative to the most modern camouflage designs such as: PenCott, MultiCam, Kryptek, Flecktarn, or the Finnish M/05. In some aspects, it is more advanced than them and also better reproduces the colours found in Central European forests from late spring to early autumn.
