Hunter M-04 Grom Boots - Black

Black tactical boots designed with uniformed services in mind. Made from full-grain leather and durable Oxford fabric. Inside, there is a soft collar that prevents pressure on the calf. The reinforced construction ensures increased durability and foot protection, enhancing comfort during long marches. The polyurethane sole guarantees good traction on forest and mountain trails. The quick lacing system allows for fast putting on and taking off of the boots.

The model complies with the EN ISO 20345:2022 standard and meets the requirements of EU regulation 2016/245.

durable Full-grain leather and Oxford fabric

The upper, made from a combination of full-grain leather and Oxford fabric, provides resistance to mechanical damage and adverse weather conditions. The whole is complemented by a lining made of breathable material, increasing comfort and supporting moisture wicking. The stiffened upper stabilises the ankle and protects against injuries.

anti-slip sole, Kevlar insole

Stability during movement in the field is guaranteed by the ANTI-SLIP sole, made of polyurethane. Its construction effectively absorbs the kinetic energy acting on the body in motion. The profiled edges of the sole ensure sure-footedness when climbing stairs or ladders.

Comfort and safety during prolonged use are ensured by the interchangeable Kevlar insole.

Lacing system

The boots are equipped with durable laces threaded through metal eyelets for quick lacing. The lacing system along with the high upper finished with a soft fabric collar guarantees excellent fit and wearing comfort. Loops at the back make it easier to put on and take off the boots.

The shoes are durable and sturdy, with a thick sole that ensures good grip and ankle support, making them suitable for long walks and difficult terrain. They are breathable and dry quickly, but the sizing may run a little small, so it is worth choosing the right insole. People with wide feet may feel pressure around the toes.

I decided to go for Hunter boots out of curiosity, as my previous Protectors from 2016 had already worn out, and the new ones are very expensive. Whether I want to or not, I’m comparing both models: * Hunters are stiffer in the upper part, which protects the ankle well, although it can be annoying at first before they break in – especially when driving. * The tongue is connected to the upper for about half its length (in the Protectors it’s 90%), which provides better protection against snow. * The sole looks similar to the Protectors, but in the Hunters it cushions the heel less, though the insole is more comfortable (I also added a sports insole, so now walking is very comfortable). * Grip is good. * Hunters are a bit narrower than competing models, so people with wide feet might find them a little uncomfortable at first – until they wear in. * The sizing causes the most controversy. According to the chart, I should have bought 45, but after reading reviews, I went for 46 and that was the right choice. I waterproofed the boots and wore them for two days, 10 hours each, in -8°C. They didn’t leak and performed well, but they do need breaking in. I’m curious how they will look after longer use – the Protectors stretched out a lot over time. I feel that, thanks to their greater stiffness, the Hunters will better retain their shape. I can’t comment on durability yet, as I’ve only had them for a short time.

The sizes run small – 46 is equivalent to 45 in other brands. The front of the shoe is quite narrow, which might be uncomfortable for people with wide feet, although they might fit others well. On the plus side, the shoes are well made.

The shoes are very light. I always buy shoes based on the insole length – then they are sure to be a good fit, although they might be a bit unstable. Very comfortable, I also bought extra socks and laces, so I’m sorted for a few years. Everything feels better in comfortable shoes, I can sincerely recommend this purchase. Remember to consider not only the insole length but also the width of your foot when choosing shoes.

The leather is better than in the protector models, and the lining feels thicker, yet it doesn't absorb sweat as much. The sole is stiffer, which suits me, but people expecting softness similar to protectors might be disappointed. After using an impregnating agent, they survived light rain and the first snowfall. Used for 8-12 hours a day, they perform well, and sweat evaporates quickly from them. Drawbacks: it's a pity they don't have 10 eyelets instead of 8, then snow wouldn't get inside through the ankle part ;)
