Woodland, also known as US Woodland or M81, is a classic camouflage pattern introduced to the US Armed Forces at the beginning of the 1980s, modelled on the earlier ERDL camouflage. For over two decades, it remained the standard pattern used by the US military until the end of the first decade of the 21st century. It is characterised by large, irregular patches in shades of green, brown, beige, and black, providing good masking and distorting properties, especially in forested areas. Due to its effectiveness and global recognisability, it has resulted in numerous variations that have reached over 60 uniformed formations worldwide.
