Woodland, also referred to as U.S. Woodland or M81, is a traditional camouflage pattern that was introduced to the US Armed Forces in the early 1980s. It was developed based on the earlier ERDL camouflage. For over 20 years, it was the standard pattern for the US military until the close of the first decade of the 21st century. The pattern is known for its large, irregularly shaped patches in green, brown, beige, and black, which offer excellent camouflage and deformation capabilities, particularly in forested areas. Due to its effectiveness and worldwide recognition, it has led to numerous variations adopted by more than 60 military forces globally.
