The name "Esbit" is an acronym from the German "Erich Schumm Brennstoff in Tablettenform," meaning "Schumm's fuel in tablet form." In 1949, Esbit Compagnie GmbH was established in Hamburg, initially engaged in exporting Schumm's products. The company has always been run as a family enterprise and remains in the hands of successive generations to this day.
Development and History

During World War II, Esbit stoves and fuel were included in the equipment of the German army and were later also used by Allied forces.
