Since then, over 600 million units have been produced, each covered by a lifetime warranty: “It works or we fix it free.” During World War II, the entire production line was dedicated exclusively to the US Army, which contributed to the global recognition of the brand. Zippo has become a permanent part of pop culture, appearing in over 2,000 film and television productions, such as Die Hard, X-Men, and Hairspray. The distinctive sound of the lighter being opened was registered as a trademark in 2018.
