The entire backpack is made of strong 500D Cordura, a material highly resistant to abrasions and mechanical damage, which ensures long-lasting durability in harsh environments.

2 compartments, 5 pockets, hydration system

The Sparrow II model features two spacious compartments. In the main compartment, there are four D-rings on the back wall for attaching accessories. The secondary compartment includes an extended organizer for sorting small items. Inside the main compartment are mesh pockets with zippers. The flap includes a flat pocket the size of the main compartment and about 5 cm thick, suitable for documents, maps, or a small laptop. There is also a quick-access small outer pocket on the flap.

Inside the backpack, there is a hydration bladder hook, a tube exit hole, and two loops (one on each shoulder strap) for stable attachment.

The main and secondary compartments are opened with a two-way zipper running along three edges of the flap, providing wide access to the interior. All zippers are durable and abrasion-resistant, with textile pulls for easy use even when wearing gloves. The zippers of the compartments and front pocket are protected by cover flaps that shield the interior from moisture and dirt.

The AFS - Air Flow System carrying system ensures proper structural stiffness, user comfort, and effective heat dissipation from the back. Wearing comfort is also enhanced by quick-release, extended shoulder straps with adjustable length, as well as the chest and hip straps. The inner side of the straps is made of tightly woven fabric that does not catch on clothing. On the back, there is a tunnel designed for a fiberglass frame compatible with the backpack system (not included).

Each side features two compression straps with 30 mm fastex buckles. They allow volume reduction and stable attachment of gear such as clothing, tarp, sleeping pad, or camouflage net. A large and wide transport handle is located on top for easier carrying.

MOLLE / PALS

MOLLE/PALS webbing is sewn on the front, bottom, and sides, allowing attachment of additional gear or quick-access items urgent need.

The front of the backpack includes a velcro panel for attaching patches, unit emblems, national flags, or morale patches.

Set contents

The backpack comes with a practical rain cover that effectively protects the backpack and its contents from moisture. It is useful both during heavy rainfall and in challenging outdoor conditions, keeping the equipment safe from getting wet.

MAPA camouflage

The MAPA camouflage pattern was designed by Maciej Dojlitko, a graduate and currently a researcher at the Faculty of Architecture and Design of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, the author of, among other publications, Theory of Deconstruction of Visual Communication. Tools for designing military camouflage (Gdańsk 2015). The innovative design, supported by convincing theoretical and experimental arguments, including computer analysis of thousands of photographs of the terrain, attracted the attention of specialists and military clothing manufacturers. In 2017, the MAPA camouflage made its debut at the International Defense Industry Exhibition in Kielce as a camouflage pattern for the Dromader system of accouterment and uniforms by Maskpol, which is part of the Polish Armaments Group. The system was created for soldiers of the Territorial Defense Army, but the MAPA camouflage itself was also considered as a perspective pattern for the entire Polish Armed Forces, where it could replace the wz.93 camouflage. Unfortunately, the MAPA camouflage has not been implemented to date as an official camouflage pattern of the Polish Army.

The MAPA pattern is an interesting alternative to the best contemporary camouflage patterns such as PenCott, MultiCam, Kryptek, Flecktarn or Finnish M/05. In some respects it is more advanced than them, and also better reproduces the colors found in Central European forests in the period from later spring to early autumn.

    My earlier first-generation Sparrow 30 has been serving me for over 12 years already; when the zip broke, I squeezed it with pliers, and since then it has been working without any problems for 2 years now. The 40 model maintains an equally high level of quality, and the changes introduced are really well thought out. My unit already has sewn-in straps at the top, which was a surprise to me, because I hadn’t seen them in any photos online — it looks like Wisport is quietly introducing modifications to its products. The only thing I’m missing is a flag patch included in the set; for a backpack made in Poland, that would be a very nice detail.

    I recently ordered it, and for me it's perfect. Compared with earlier models, this one already has built-in compression straps in the upper part of the backpack, which makes it possible to pull the top in closer to the shoulder straps. You can see that Wisport listens to its customers.

    Fantastic backpack. The quality is outstanding. The 500D Cordura is tough but doesn’t wear out fabrics the way 1000D can. I hesitated for a long time before buying it (it ultimately became a gift that my wife wanted to give me), because it had everything except load lifter straps, whose absence many buyers complained about in several reviews I had read. Imagine my surprise when, upon receiving the backpack, I noticed that the manufacturer had in fact added those straps. The backpack is now truly complete and ready to be put to the test. I’ll be using it on hikes and for travel as hand luggage, as the dimensions are perfectly suitable. I can confirm all the positive reviews I had read so far regarding the quality of the materials and the finish. The backpack weighs nearly 2 kg, so it’s not the lightest, but I was specifically looking for something sturdy. The rear pocket against the back (intended for a hydration bladder, with a removable vertical aluminium bar that reinforces the stiffness of the back panel) can easily hold a 15-inch laptop. Granted, the pocket isn’t padded, but it does benefit from the exterior foam of the back panel. That said, this is not a backpack specifically designed for carrying a laptop, and that’s worth keeping in mind. Excellent purchase (or rather: gift, in my case). Finally, I’d suggest to the Military website that if this version 2.0 of the backpack (with the load lifter straps) really is a new version, they should update the description and the photos. I’m certain that with this additional detail, many people will no longer have any doubts about buying it.

    This is a longer term review. I've worn and used this pack quite a lot now. It's my third Wisport. The quality of manufacture and durability are top notch. These packs are built to last. The zippers are sturdy, the material is good quality. Olive green is a very beautiful colour in my opinion. The pack is comfortable to wear, ventilation is average. The straps are well designed. I usually remove the waist strap as I don't need it. Even without it the pack is comfortable to carry. You can orderly pack a lot of gear in this pack, since it is roomy. One thing I do not like about this design at all, it could even be hazardous to those using this in duty: there is a gap between the shoulder straps and the top of the pack. If you are moving in dense environments and brush you easily get stuck as branches get stuck in just this gap. It has happened to me repeatedly so you have to keep that in mind when you move in forests. I really don't understand the reasoning behind this design aspect. Other than that I am happy with this pack, it has served me well and I am sure it will serve me well much longer. My next pack will definitely be another Wisport.

    This is a really solid backpack – it’s proved itself on several of my trips and it’s surprisingly comfortable to carry things in it, which really impressed me given the type of rucksack it is. Once you remove the hip belt, it can easily replace a cabin suitcase as it’s a similar size. I always take it on flights and it performs brilliantly. The materials used are high quality – I’ve been using it for over a year, and it still looks brand new. The top pocket of the backpack is a really practical feature – you can store, for example, headphones, gloves or sunglasses, and at the same time it’s unobtrusive and lets you quickly reach for essential items. However, there is one downside, which has also been mentioned by other users: the lack of straps tightening the shoulder straps at the top of the backpack means that when fully packed, the upper part sticks out and it looks unsightly. I’m surprised that Wisport’s designers didn’t anticipate this and released the product with such a flaw – it was irritating enough for me that I corrected it myself, and now it’s fine. At this price and equipment class, users shouldn’t be forced to make their own modifications. I’m adding photos to my review so other users and Wisport’s designers can see the solution – it would be great if this adjustment was introduced in the backpacks and offered to those who’ve put their trust in the brand. In my case, I made the modification using original Wisport parts, I only had to alter the buckles on the shoulder straps so I didn’t have to cut the sewn-on tapes.

    There are no perfect things, but this backpack is very close to ideal. What am I missing? In the first large compartment, there could be a velcro panel for additional organisers. The side pockets for canteens could be deeper, as standard military bottles often slide out and can fall. That's it when it comes to cons. On the plus side: large capacity, regular shape, comfortable carry system, zippers work smoothly and don't get stuck, durable, thick material, and a nice colour (although that's a matter of personal taste). I use the backpack as a spare during car trips. It easily fits a booster/power bank, a first aid kit, tarp, kit for boiling water, several packs of freeze-dried food, coffee, tea, mugs, multitool, small axe, knife, large saw, blanket, various small items and it still isn't full :) That's exactly what I wanted!

    I've had it for some time now, so I've had a good chance to test it thoroughly. I really appreciate its capacity, the practical additional pockets, and the cover that's included in the set. The backpack might seem quite large, but 40 litres really is a lot of space, which makes it easy to take a lot of equipment. The side pockets with compression straps are great – you can easily fit the stock of an AR there.

    The backpack is made of very high-quality materials – in this respect, it matches brands such as 5.11, Oakley, or Mystery Ranch. The stitching quality is excellent, the AFS carrying system is very comfortable, and the layout of the pockets and interior organisation is flawless. However, I have reservations about some of the design solutions: the lack of a molle system at the front and replacing it with two straps does not work in practice. The handle for the shoulder straps has been sewn on lower down, so the backpack sticks out and cannot be adjusted. The side pockets are not functional – a 1L Camelbak bottle easily falls out of them, and the rows of side molle straps are too short. Additionally, the strips protecting the zip have been poorly designed – they do not return to place and catch on the zips. As a result, I decided to return this backpack and I am still looking for a 40-litre model.

    A solid backpack with a well-designed construction. According to the manufacturer, it weighs just under 2 kg when empty, but in my opinion that is light enough for its dimensions. The set also includes a rain cover, which is located in the lower pocket of the backpack – a definite advantage. The whole product is made with attention to quality. I definitely recommend buying this model.
