Wisport Sparrow II Backpack 30 l - MAPA
A revamped version of the bestselling Sparrow model! The version in camouflage MAPA made of 500D Cordura is a compact survival/military rucksack, derived from the popular, urban Raven model. The ideal back-fitting shape has been adapted to new uses - the main compartment (approx. 27 litres) can be fully packed with luggage of this volume. Access is enabled by a zip that unfastens the flap on three edges.
The MAPA camouflage pattern was designed by Maciej Dojlitko, a graduate and currently a researcher at the Faculty of Architecture and Design of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, author of, among other publications, Theory of Deconstructing Visual Communication. Tools for designing military camouflage ( Gdańsk 2015). The innovative design, supported by convincing theoretical and experimental arguments, including computer analysis of thousands of terrain photographs, has attracted the attention of specialists and military clothing manufacturers. In 2017, the MAPA camouflage made its debut at the International Defence Industry Exhibition in Kielce as a camouflage pattern for the Dromader accouterment and uniform system of the Maskpol company, which is part of the Polish Armaments Group. The system was created with soldiers of the Territorial Defence Army in mind, but the MAPA camouflage itself was also considered as a perspective pattern for the entire Polish Armed Forces, where it could replace camouflage wz.93. Unfortunately, the MAPA camouflage has not been implemented as an official camouflage pattern of the Polish Army to date.
Main features of MAPA camouflage in the basic forest variant:
- 6 colours forming layers resembling levels on a map,
- colours optimised for operations in forests of Central Europe,
- use of the illusion of three-dimensionality and anamorphosis effect,
- biomorphic shapes making the design similar to vegetation,
- strongly contrasting elements imitating flashes of light and shadows,
- deformation of the masked silhouette by means of a macro pattern,
- colour noise reproduced by means of a micro pattern.
The MAPA pattern is an interesting alternative to the best contemporary camouflage patterns such as PenCott, MultiCam, Kryptek, Flecktarn or the Finnish M/05. In some respects, it is more advanced than them and also better reproduces the colours found in central European forests in the period from later spring to early autumn.
New developments:
- a wider and longer transport grip moved from the back wall of the rucksack to the middle of the upper part of the main compartment,
- 4 D-rings have been sewn into the main compartment on the back wall to allow the attachment of additional accessories,
- the mesh pocket in the main compartment has been divided into two smaller, zipped pockets,
- now, as in the main compartment, the zip in the smaller compartment opens to the lower edges of the rucksack (previously half),
- wider cover strip for the main compartment zipper,
- covering strip for the zipper of the smaller compartment (previously absent),
- slats covering the zipper of the flat front pocket (previously missing),
- updated organiser in the smaller compartment,
- covers for the profiled carrying system (including the braces on the inside) made of compact, non-hooking material.
The flap has a flat pocket the size of the main compartment and about 5 cm thick - enough to hold maps, documents and even a small laptop. There is a small flat pocket on the front of the flap.
Inside, the backpack has a clip for the hydration system's bladder, an opening to lead out the hose and two handles (one each on the brace) for attaching it.
The front, bottom and sides have PALS (inch) webbing of the MOLLE webbing system (an arrangement of inch-long webbing sewn on every inch). These allow the rucksack to carry urgent need items, items too large to fit inside or additional pockets.
The side panels also feature two, adjustable length straps each fastened with 30 mm fastex buckles. They are used to compress the rucksack (reduce its volume with respect to the contents) and can be useful for stable attachment of equipment carried outside - a jacket, tarpaulin, carrimata or even a camouflage net.
The carry system guarantees comfort and excellent back ventilation, ensuring that the rucksack is sufficiently rigid (Semi Adjustable System Ergonomic Military). Comfort is also enhanced by the quick-release moulded, length-adjustable shoulder straps , chest strap and waist belt. There is a special tunnel in the back for a fibreglass frame compatible with the backpack (to be purchased separately).
The backpack comes with a 5-year manufacturer's guarantee.
