Paratex Antibacterial

Paratex Antibacterial is an antibacterial and antifungal finish used in fabrics used in the manufacture of sleeping bags. Its function is to reduce the growth of bacteria, leading to a reduction in unpleasant odors and reducing the need to wash the sleeping bag frequently, keeping it fresher for longer. The moisture-wicking properties and high breathability of Paratex fabrics remain unchanged despite the use of this antibacterial finish.

After initial tests, I believe the lowest temperature at which this product can be comfortably used is 0°C. Assuming you wear jeans, a T-shirt, and a jacket every day, and want to rely solely on this cocoon – going below zero with it is risky. Even a slight frost will require you to put on an extra layer under the jacket or, preferably, use a sleeping bag, duvet, or blanket. The packed (non-compressed) size of the cocoon with the hammock is about 40 cm in height and approximately 35 cm in diameter. This really requires a big backpack, especially if you want to take a tarp as well. That’s why I plan to use the cocoon mainly when the temperature outside is above zero – then I don’t have to carry extra gear to keep warm. The cocoon with the hammock and possibly a tarp is enough for me. In other situations, I’ll opt for bivvy camping with a sleeping bag, which takes up less space. A few more observations – once you get inside the cocoon, there’s plenty of space, so you can move your arms freely; nothing presses on your shoulders. Overall, this is solid and functional equipment, great in suitable temperature conditions, but you have to account for the considerable size. Unfortunately, such a set with a hammock takes up a lot of room. If you want to stay warm and dry, apart from the hammock, you have to take a few other things as well, and there’s no way around it. That’s why I often choose a bivvy, but sometimes I also like to swing lazily between the trees – and then this cocoon is perfect.
