Woodland, also known as US Woodland or M81, is a classic camouflage pattern that was introduced to the US military in the early 1980s, based on the earlier ERDL camouflage. For over twenty years, it was the standard pattern used by the US military until the end of the first decade of the 21st century. It is characterised by large, irregular splotches in tones of green, brown, beige, and black, which provide excellent masking and distortion properties, especially in wooded areas. Owing to its effectiveness and recognition worldwide, it has gained many variants adopted by over 60 uniformed formations globally. This pattern has also had a significant impact on popular culture, transitioning from military applications to everyday fashion.
