Woodland, also known as US Woodland or M81, is a classic camouflage pattern that entered the U.S. Armed Forces in the early 1980s, based on the earlier ERDL camouflage. For over twenty years, it was the standard pattern used by the U.S. military until the end of the first decade of the 21st century. It features large irregular blotches in tones of green, brown, beige, and black, providing excellent masking and deformation properties, particularly in forested areas. Thanks to its effectiveness and worldwide recognition, it has gained many variants that have been adopted by over 60 military formations globally. This pattern has also had a massive influence on pop culture, transitioning from military applications to everyday fashion.
