I have been using this type of fire striker for years, and now I am trying it together with my grandson. Holidays are the perfect time to strike a fire striker against flint or fingertips — it brings people closer together. The striker made from high-carbon steel produces excellent sparks. I still need to learn how to obtain cotton or tinder, because without these skills, the striker will remain just an ordinary gadget. The process of gathering materials is interesting, though a bit dirty. I wish you lots of fun.

A traditional fire steel, often referred to as a blacksmith's fire, modelled on medieval fire-starting tools.
High carbon steel forged hardness, flint and leather pouch included
Made from forged carbon steel hardened to 57 HRC, for high durability and wear resistance. Comes with a flint for creating sparks and a leather pouch for easy carrying.
Directions for use
To start a fire with a traditional fire steel, use a flint and tinder, a flammable material that will capture the sparks. Fire steel should be struck against an attached piece of flint, placing the tinder (e.g. charred cotton or other material capable of capturing sparks) on the edge of the flint. The sparks that occur will fall onto the tinder, causing it to glow. The tinder should then be placed in a dry material, such as grass, vegetable fluff or wood shavings, and the embers blown to produce a flame.

The fire starter is small, but it works – you just need to clean off the grease. The flint is very small, about the size of a fingernail, not like shown in the picture, so it’s better to find your own.
