The seal works as it should. A standard lighter won't fit, but it's excellent for matches – just remember to add a protected striker, for example in a zip bag.

This is an imitation of American army containers made in China. The container is tight and protects matches and kindling from moisture well. The firesteel, due to its small size, I treat more as a curiosity than as a practical tool for lighting a fire.

The container is tight and sturdy enough to protect its contents from moisture – it will fit more than just matches. Great for storing matches, but you can’t light them in it, as it lacks a striker. The striker, which contains red phosphorus, glass, and binder, is essential to light a match by striking, which increases the temperature and causes a chemical reaction. Ordinary matches or popular survival ones won’t light from the firestarter in the container or its surface. So if you buy matches, remove or cut out a piece of the striker and store it in the container – then it becomes a practical solution for transport. Without a striker, the accessory is rather useless as you can’t light a match in it – unless you have special ones where the whole surface acts as a striker. Overall, I recommend it, but remember to include a striker inside.

It works, it really is waterproof. It also has many other uses besides storing matches. I broke the mirror myself by accident. Either the firestarter doesn't work or I can't use it properly – but I didn't buy it for the firestarter, so it’s a solid 4 from me.

I use my container to keep a BIC mini lighter and some emergency cash. It could use an eyelet for attaching to a carabiner, but at this price you can’t complain. Excellent as a waterproof box for an organiser – highly recommend.
