This is really effective :) the included metal plate isn’t very convenient, but it can easily be replaced, for example with a penknife blade. The stream of sparks easily ignited a handful of dry material gathered in the woods.

The fire steel is solid and sturdy. The metal scraper included does not work well and it's best to throw it away. Using a knife for striking is effective – lots of sparks are produced. The sparks have a standard temperature. They will easily ignite dry tinder, like cotton, but with more difficult materials, such as lignin, it’s harder. Because the fire steel is thick, you can scrape off some material to help with harder-to-light tinder.

It's not worth spending money. The sparks are weak (yellow, while a good firestarter gives white sparks) and there are few of them. It works, but using it is tedious. A task that you can do instantly with a good firestarter takes a few minutes here.

I always wanted to have a fire starter like this, but I put off buying a good one for a long time. Previously, I used cheap Chinese versions that didn't work well. I finally decided to invest in a good fire starter and it turned out to be a perfect choice – it works great, even with the included metal plate. The sparks are really strong and you can easily start a fire with them. For me, it's more of an interesting gadget and great fun to start a fire this way.

I bought the Mil-Tec Fire Steel Large and I must admit that it is one of the best outdoor tools that you should have with you on any field trip. In terms of durability and functionality, this model positively surprised me – it is excellent for camping, in the forest, during survival, or in situations when you need to start a fire in an emergency.

A solid fire starter at an affordable price. Lighting a campfire is not difficult, although I suggest using a knife instead of the included metal plate. The rod is quite large, so it will last a long time.
