The first multitool created by the American company Leatherman, specially designed for survival enthusiasts and outdoor activities. The Signal model includes 19 tools, such as a blade that can be opened with one hand, without the need to unfold the pliers. The design also includes additional accessories useful in the field, such as a flint, an alarm whistle, and a diamond sharpener.

The model is equipped with a slot for interchangeable bits and a locking system for all tools, which enhances user safety. Signal combines the features of a universal EDC tool with elements designed for use in difficult terrain conditions. The product is covered by the manufacturer's 25-year warranty.

The blade is made from 420HC stainless steel, with a hardness of 55-59 HRC. The material is distinguished by its resistance to corrosion, cracking, and ease of sharpening. The handle of the multitool is made of 420 stainless steel and coated with a PVD coating in black color, which protects the steel in harsh conditions.

420HC is a high-carbon version of 420 stainless steel, containing 0.4-0.5% carbon and 12-14% chromium. Thanks to its higher carbon content, it achieves higher hardness (55-57 HRC) and better cutting properties than standard 420 steel, making it ideal for the production of outdoor, hunting, and everyday knives. The steel is characterized by very good corrosion resistance, high fracture toughness, and ease of sharpening, which increases its versatility. It is a material with a favorable price-quality ratio, making it a popular choice for mid-range knives. With proper heat treatment, 420HC can achieve properties comparable to AUS6 steel, but at a more affordable price.

420 is a martensitic stainless steel often used in cutlery, especially in kitchen knives, EDC, and budget outdoor models. It is characterized by a relatively low carbon content (0.16-0.25%), which allows for a hardness range of 54-57 HRC, ensuring easy sharpening and resistance to chipping. Chromium (12-14%) provides good corrosion resistance, making the steel suitable for use in humid conditions. Silicon and manganese additives (up to 1%) improve strength and hardenability, while low sulfur and phosphorus content reduce the brittleness of the material. 420 steel is valued for its high corrosion resistance, relatively high impact strength (resistance to cracks and chipping), and low processing costs. Thanks to its ease of machining and polishing, it is popular in the production of low- and mid-range knives.

Bead Blast is a blade finishing technique that involves treating steel with a stream of fine ceramic or glass beads under high pressure. It gives the surface a uniform matte, satin-gray appearance without any light reflections. Nevertheless, Bead Blast is valued for its simplicity, discretion, and masking properties, which is why it is used in EDC, outdoor, and military knives.

    Without a doubt, this is a very good EDC option for tactical/outdoor use. So far, the only aspect I think could be improved is the saw. On the latest Leatherman models, the cutting edge is wider than the spine, which helps prevent it from binding while cutting. Without a doubt, this is the Leatherman I'll be using for my job.

    Delivery time: I ordered on 21.04, arrived on 25.04, clarifying that the product was delivered internationally, so in fact the product is not in Ukraine. Pros: high quality, good warranty, arrived relatively quickly, nice packaging. Big minus: when I checked it at the post office, I noticed there were drops of oil on the warranty, and the multitool itself was oily, unevenly smeared where the blade is and on the body. The inside of the box was scratched. The item was meant as a gift and did not look very neat, which is not very pleasant considering its price, so bear this in mind when buying.

The only downside is the sharpener and the fire starter, which are rather average in quality. Overall, I recommend it for camping and hiking trips.

    An excellent multitool, it's useful not only outside the home. It's light, flat, has a clip and a carabiner, so you can always have it with you. If you don't use the whistle or firestarter, you can remove them (and the sharpener) to make the multitool even lighter. The unusual tools turned out to be especially useful: the bit holder, hammer, and awl. The sharpener works well for sharpening secateurs in the garden (it does this better than a file), although it isn't a tool for full sharpening. The hammer is something that's often missing for garden work. After a few modifications, the Signal could easily be called a gardening multitool. Very nice colours and a durable cerakote coating.

    Premium class multitool. Will work both in the forest and as an EDC. It's smaller and lighter than the Wave+, easy access to the saw and knife, replaceable wire cutters and a small sharpener, so you can touch up the tool on the go. Cons: you can't close it when using the bit holder because the hammer gets in the way. The fire starter wears out quickly, so it's better to keep it for emergencies, and the replacement is quite expensive. Overall, I recommend it. It's best to get an additional bit set and adapter, then the set is complete.
