Helikon-Tex Rogue Hoodie - Black/ERDL

Hooded sweatshirt in black with contrasting inserts in ERDL camouflage. Made of polyester with a grammage of 255 g/m2 in a Rip-Stop weave, which is characterised by very good resistance to abrasion and damage. The model features zips from the renowned YKK brand.

Camouflage ERDL

The ERDL (Engineer Research and Development Laboratory) camouflage was developed in 1948 by an American research laboratory. It did not come into wide use until the 1960s, during the Vietnam War, mainly among special and reconnaissance units. It was on its basis that later designs, such as the Woodland and M81, known around the world today, were developed. The green-brown camouflage palette works well in dense vegetation, European deciduous forests, thickets and mixed woodlands.

    I’ve already had some time to test this hoodie, and light rain doesn’t bother it. In heavier rain, it works well over a shorter distance, and then it dries quickly. It also provides a bit of warmth. It has quite a few pockets, including internal zip pockets, which are very practical for keys or other things you don’t want to lose. The material is somewhat slippery and doesn’t feel like fleece, but at around 10 degrees I was warm in it. I recommend it, especially when it’s on offer.

    I chose this sweatshirt mainly for the great Black/Tiger Stripe pattern – it looks even better in real life than in the photos. The combination of black with the distinctive tiger camouflage on the panels makes a great impression and stands out very well in an urban environment. As for practicality, this sweatshirt definitely surpasses classic hoodies – Helikon has equipped it with as many as 10 pockets! The chest and shoulder pockets are fastened with sturdy YKK zippers, perfect for documents or a wallet. Inside the large front pockets, there are smaller compartments, so you don't have to worry about things getting messy inside.

    I bought this hoodie as a versatile option for duty and everyday wear — this thing is simply brilliant! The combination of black with classic US Woodland looks very cool and stylish, but the main thing here is functionality. The material is high-quality, pleasant against the body, breathes well, and at the same time retains warmth excellently. I was especially pleased with the cut: the hoodie does not restrict movement, fits superbly, and is comfortable to wear under a jacket or vest. Another big plus is the pockets: there are lots of them, they are arranged as logically as possible, and all the necessary kit is always within easy reach. The shoulders and elbows are reinforced, so there is no need to worry about wear during active use. The hood is comfortable and protects well from the wind. As always, Helikon-Tex keeps the bar high.     The sweatshirt works well for cooler autumn days because it provides quite good warmth thanks to the inner fleece-like layer. Its biggest advantage for me is the pockets, especially the two chest pockets, which can easily fit a phone. Another plus is the small hidden zipped pocket, ideal for small items such as keys. The biggest drawback, however, remains the hood, which in my opinion is too small. Once you put it on, it is difficult to properly cover your head, and in addition the material around the shoulders and neck rides up, which makes it rather uncomfortable to wear. At a discounted price, it is definitely worth buying, whereas at the regular price I would think twice about the purchase.

    I bought it mainly because of the promotion — at 135 PLN, it would have been a shame to pass it up. I have all available versions of Helikon kangaroo hoodies, so I have a good basis for comparison. The cut of this hoodie is excellent, and the 10 pockets definitely outperform the competition. It looks very good, is surprisingly warm, and copes well with light rain. I previously had the Multicam Black version, and now the Tiger Stripe has arrived. Unfortunately, it has one significant flaw: the main material, namely that black, shiny polyester, is very poor. It pills quickly and snags easily, so it is hard to understand why Helikon used such a poor fabric in its most expensive hoodie. When I watch videos of someone pushing through forest undergrowth while wearing it, it is more amusing than impressive. This is definitely more of an urban, fairly delicate hoodie that can get damaged even from carrying a rucksack. I do not recommend it for intensive outdoor use, but for everyday wear in the city, definitely yes, because it really is a very good-looking product.

    The sweatshirt is very solidly made. Although the label says Vietnam, to my surprise there are no loose threads, which is often the case with Helikon. The material on the outside, in the areas without camouflage, is slightly slippery but pleasant to the touch. The sweatshirt keeps you warm while also providing effective ventilation from the inside. The zips work flawlessly, the hook-and-loop fasteners are also fine, and the sizing is similar to other clothes from this brand. The cut is quite wide in the chest, while the sizing itself is typically American — even though I usually wear a medium, here I had to order an extra small. It's a shame that Helikon does not use standard European sizing. The sweatshirt can also serve as a base layer, because another layer can easily fit over it. A big plus is the large number of pockets, including internal pockets in the kangaroo pocket, although there is no cable pass-through. The Tiger camouflage looks very good; it is only a shame that it was not used on the back as well. Bought on sale for 135 PLN, it is definitely worth the price, but in my opinion it is not worth paying more for it because it is not without flaws.

    It's a hoodie. Nothing more, nothing less. Looks good, a bit on the wider side on the waist, but nothing I couldn't live with. It has plenty of pockets and in the main pockets there are hidden zipped pockets. I'm not sure if it's worth the full price, but if it is discounted I'll recommend it with both hands.

    The hoodie feels high quality. The fabric is more like a track jacket material rather than a traditional sweatshirt-style hoodie. The jacket is also quite warm, so it isn’t a summer jacket.
