Second generation of the Ratel model made from abrasion and damage-resistant Cordura. The bug out bag includes a spacious main compartment with a pocket for a hydration bladder and the possibility to lead the tube outside. Practical manual carrying is enabled by a wide carry handle.

On the outside, there are two pockets with appropriately arranged organisers, allowing for stable and convenient carrying of additional equipment such as magazines, knives, maps, etc. Specially designed stiffening in the back part significantly increases the comfort of carrying the bug out bag. All compartments are equipped with a bi-directional YKK® zipper.

On the front, bottom, and sides, there are sewn-on pals straps, which are part of the MOLLE system (an arrangement of inch-wide straps sewn every inch), allowing for the transport of equipment necessary in emergencies on the outside of the bug out bag, as well as of gear too large to fit inside. Additionally, the bug out bag is equipped with D-rings on the straps, enabling the installation of tactical gear.

On the front of the bug out bag, there is a velcro panel, allowing for the attachment of any patch or emblem, such as a national flag, unit insignia, or so-called Morale Patches, giving the bug out bag a personalised character.

Carrying system consists of profiled straps with adjustable length, a chest strap and a detachable hip belt.

Thanks to the compensation straps fastened with Woojin® buckles, located two on each side, the size of the bug out bag can be adjusted to the amount of equipment being carried. Shortening the straps allows for compression of the bug out bag, e.g., when the main compartment is empty and the smaller pockets are filled, helping to maintain the stability and aesthetic appearance of the bug out bag.

The visible hydration bladder in the pictures is not part of the set with the bug out bag.

Camouflage MultiCam

MultiCam is a modern camouflage pattern created in 2002 by the American company Crye Precision in collaboration with the United States Army Soldier Systems Center (Natick Labs) as part of the Objective Force Warrior programme. Its goal was to design a universal camouflage pattern effective in varied terrain and changing environmental conditions. The MultiCam pattern consists of seven colours, creating smooth transitions between shades of green, brown and beige, allowing camouflage to adapt to the background, taking on green shades in forest areas or browns and beiges in desert regions - in the Central and Eastern European environment, it is particularly effective in the autumn and among dry vegetation. MultiCam has gained worldwide recognition and is used by numerous armed forces and special units. In 2010, the camouflage was officially adopted by the American Army as the pattern for soldiers stationed in Afghanistan, replacing the previous Universal Camouflage Pattern (UCP). The pattern is also available to civilian users, gaining popularity among military and airsoft enthusiasts.

The backpack is well made and has an interesting design. I had already considered buying it before, but only decided to order when it went on sale. I have a backpack of the same type from Condor, but I intend to replace it with the new one. I am curious to see how this new one will perform with longer use.

For the money it's a great backpack! Really well-made just like the Helikon stuff always is. No loose threads, zippers work like they should... The volume of the pack is way more than 25 litres, I think that's just the main compartment. This thing can eat a lot stuff, so it can get a bit bulky sometimes. But when you're not carrying a lot you can use those compression straps to cinch it down and it becomes more low-profile. But sometimes it's good to have that extra capacity even if you don't necessarily need it. A great pack!

I got the backpack as a birthday present from my wife. The material is thin, which I see as an advantage as it makes it lighter. The workmanship is decent. However, I do not think it will work well in urban conditions, but for all sorts of outdoor trips I can recommend it with a clear conscience.

Great backpack, very spacious and made from high-quality materials. I regularly use it for mountain hikes and forest walks, but it also works perfectly as a school backpack.

The backpack was purchased for both school and trips outside the city. It looks good and the quality of workmanship is definitely a plus. I think the strings on the zips could be longer. The black colour attracts dust, which is visible, but that's typical for this shade.

The backpack was bought with school and short trips out of town in mind. It looks very good and is solidly made. The cords attached to the zippers are a bit too short, but this can be solved with paracord, for example. The back is well reinforced and the colour is very nice.

The Helikon Ratel Mk2 25 l in Olive Green is an interesting choice among backpacks. A definite plus is the use of durable Cordura material. The amount of space inside is pleasantly surprising, considering the size of the backpack. The molle system and organiser in one of the pockets also deserve praise. The chest strap, hip belt, and reinforced back are also very useful. The only thing I miss is a separate pocket in the main compartment for A4 documents or a laptop.

First about the colour: it’s closer to RAL 7013 than green, but that doesn’t bother me. The material is a bit soft, which makes the backpack lighter. However, the most important things are comfort and capacity. The backpack is comfortable, the stiffened back greatly improves comfort even when loaded, and the capacity positively surprised me. I’ve had many different 25l backpacks, but this Helikon is exceptionally spacious – my old 25l backpack could fit inside it with room to spare. Highly recommended!

A definite plus is the capacity – although the backpack seems small, it can actually fit a lot of things. The organiser in the outside pocket is quite practical. Other than that, there are no exceptional features, but it is a solid backpack at a reasonable price.

I’ve had a Helikon backpack for over a year now and it has accompanied me on many trips – both ordinary journeys, forest outings, and for carrying equipment. I highly recommend it; it’s perfect as a bug-out backpack for several days. + very comfortable to use + made of cordura + side MOLLE attachments

High quality workmanship, padded back, and the option to add an additional pocket to the main compartment. The downside is that the shoulder straps loosen easily and from time to time you have to adjust them because the backpack slips down.

I can't complain about the backpack's capacity, but unfortunately there are some weaknesses here and a very annoying detail. There is no rigid bottom in the main compartment, the molle straps are not very well placed, and the top pocket, due to its size, makes access to the lower one difficult. An additional simple divider for documents inside would be handy, and the hip belt is not very comfortable and can be bothersome when not fastened. If you use it for trips to the forest or 1-2 day outings, the backpack will do, but for everyday use in the city, not really.

I have been using this backpack for 3 years and it has really been through a lot – forests, trips, fishing. The material is waterproof, and even though it’s only 25L, it’s very spacious. The back is stiffened, which I really like. It’s comfortable to wear, and the zips and material are solid. At this price, I can definitely recommend it – I think it even surpasses Wisport backpacks, of which I own a few as well.

Excellent quality backpack, as expected from the Helikon brand. The pockets are very well and conveniently arranged.

It's a good, spacious, and fairly lightweight backpack, but it's a bit lacking in rigidity, which is why I give it four stars. If I had to choose again, I would go for the Wisport Sparrow, which is more comfortable to wear.
