The sleeping bag is made from very high-quality materials and provides excellent thermal insulation – temperatures down to -10°C are no problem for it. The central zip and sturdy sliders make it much easier to get out quickly, which isn’t always obvious with other models. I’d heard a lot of good things about Carinthia, especially regarding the zips, and this has proven true here. The set includes a durable compression sack that significantly reduces the sleeping bag's size, even though the bag itself is quite large and really needs compressing. As far as weight and packed size go, it’s standard for a synthetic sleeping bag with these parameters – plus, you don’t have to worry about it as much as you would with down equivalents. The Defence 6 easily fits vertically in the lower compartment of my Savotta Jaakari XL rucksack, so it’s a tried-and-tested solution. However, bear in mind that you’ll need a large rucksack or will need to attach the sleeping bag externally. I definitely recommend this model – personally, I prefer the Defence 6 for winter instead of combining the Defence 4 with the Tropen.

Temperature ratings and usage conditions
The Defence 6 sleeping bag's temperature ratings are in accordance with EN 13537 standard:
- T-limit: -18 C – the minimum temperature at which a man can sleep comfortably without feeling cold,
- T-extreme: -40 C – the lowest temperature for survival in the sleeping bag. Not recommended for regular use.
Shellproof polyamide, trapezoidal footbox
The outer and inner layers are made of Shellproof polyamide – a material based on nylon microfibers with a microporous structure, resistant to moisture and mechanical damage. The trapezoidal foot section increases space and helps retain heat more effectively.
G-Loft insulation, Thermoflect
The interior is filled with lightweight synthetic G-Loft insulation that provides effective thermal protection. The three-layer filling retains its insulating properties even after getting wet or prolonged use. The Thermoflect layer reflects body heat back inside. The outer shell is separated from the inner lining, creating an additional insulating buffer.
Central zipper, Anti Snag system
The two-way zipper, centrally placed, allows the sleeping bag to be fully opened. The Anti Snag system prevents fabric from getting caught in the zipper. Along the zipper is an insulating draft tube that blocks cold air. A Velcro tab at the top stabilizes the zipper during sleep.
Integrated hood for cold protection
The sleeping bag is equipped with an ergonomic hood with adjustable face opening, allowing customization via elastic drawcords.
Easy transport and storage
When packed, it takes up little space, making it easy to store and carry. Its packed size is 25 x 45 cm and weight is 2600 g, offering a convenient portable solution.
