Flecktarn is a German military camouflage pattern, officially introduced to the Bundeswehr in 1990. It is based on small, irregular spots in five shades: dark green, olive, brown, black, and beige. The arrangement of numerous dots and blurred colour boundaries makes Flecktarn effectively obscure the user's silhouette contours both in the forest and in shrubbery or against the forest floor. It was created with European climate conditions in mind, particularly the temperate zone. Flecktarn is still the standard pattern in the German army and other military and police formations, and its effectiveness has led to the development of numerous variants and adaptations in other countries.
