Flecktarn is a German military camouflage pattern officially introduced to the Bundeswehr in 1990. It is based on small, irregular spots in five shades: dark green, olive, brown, black, and beige. The distribution of numerous dots and blurred color boundaries make Flecktarn effective at breaking up the user's silhouette in forests, thickets, or against the forest floor. It was created with European climatic conditions in mind, particularly the temperate zone. Flecktarn remains a standard pattern in the German army and other military and police formations, and its effectiveness has led to the creation of many variations and adaptations in other countries
