Badger Outdoor Compass with Ruler

An easy-to-use map compass, ideal for orienteering, mountain trekking and survival expeditions. With accurate scales and functional additions, it is an indispensable piece of equipment for every outdoor enthusiast. Suitable for both beginners and more advanced users.

Dual scale, magnifying glass

The device is equipped with a double scale, which facilitates orientation in the field in various conditions. The built-in magnifying glass helps to read details on maps, which is especially useful when planning more complicated routes.

Rulers for different map scales

Three different rulers allow you to calculate distances quickly and precisely depending on the map scale. They are adapted to the most common scales:

  • 1:25000 – suitable for detailed tourist maps,
  • 1:50000 – standard solution used in topographic maps,
  • 1:63360 – a typical scale used in American orienteering competitions (1 inch on the map corresponds to 1 mile on the ground).

This solution allows you to quickly plan your route and accurately determine distances in the field.

Light and compact design with anti-loss feature

The compass is made of durable plastic, which makes it highly resistant to damage while keeping its weight low. Measuring approximately 12.5 x 6 cm and weighing only 41 g, it fits easily into any pocket or backpack.

The set includes a 49 cm long, brightly coloured cord to secure the compass, which is particularly useful in dynamic situations such as orienteering.

Main features

  • intuitive operation
  • lightweight design
  • double graduation
  • built-in magnifying glass
  • rulers for three scales
  • bright safety cord

Application and activity examples

Survival, bushcraft: Enables precise distance measurements on maps with different scales. The durable material is resistant to harsh environmental conditions.

Trekking and mountain hiking: Ideal for route planning on hiking maps with a scale of 1:25,000 or 1:50,000. The magnifying glass makes it easier to read details such as trail markings or contour lines.

Orienteering: Thanks to the double scale, it is possible to determine directions precisely during competitions. Rulers adapted to different map scales speed up distance calculations. The compact size and safety cord minimise the risk of loss during intensive activities.

I needed a compass for an emergency backpack (as a gift) that would be inexpensive, accurate, and easy to use. After reading reviews on Military, I decided on this Badger Outdoor model with a ruler. It works perfectly. I recommend it!

For a budget device, this compass works really well. It is lightweight, easy to use and equipped with all the necessary functions for map use: it has scales, a ruler for different map scales, and a magnifier. The needle moves smoothly and holds direction, so setting the bearing is not difficult. The material is not of any premium quality and it's a long way from top-shelf models, but at this price it's hard to complain. An excellent choice for beginners, for learning or as a backup item in your backpack. It does its job without any reservations.

I definitely do not recommend it. I may have received a faulty unit, but this compass is very poor. Every time it points in a different direction, whereas by comparison the button compass from Helikon has never let me down and works without any problems in all conditions. I did not make a complaint because, for an amount of 20 PLN, I decided it was not worth wasting time on, so I gave it to a child to play with instead of throwing it away.

The Badger baseplate compass with ruler is a functional and affordably priced tool that is ideal for learning navigation, for camps, and during walking trips. The transparent base with millimetre and inch markings, along with map scales, allows you to measure distances conveniently and quickly and to determine bearings directly on the map.

For this price, the product is fine. Definitely better than the Chinese equivalent. Everything works flawlessly and precisely. It's hard to assess the durability of the material, time will tell.

A very practical and accurate compass for hiking and orienteering. The ruler on the body is a nice bonus, especially when working with a map. Lightweight, durable and easy to use, even for beginners.
