A properly fitted uniform provides freedom of movement, safety, and comfort regardless of whether it is used in active service, military training, historical reenactments, or outdoor activities. Check this guide to learn how to measure your body for a military uniform accurately and what the uniform sizes are based on an example table.
How to Measure Your Body for a Uniform Accurately?
Before starting the measurements, prepare a tailor's measuring tape and something to write down the results. Stand naturally in underwear to ensure the measurements are as precise as possible. The measurements you should take are:
Height Measurement
Stand straight, barefoot, with your back against the wall, heels together, and slightly touching the wall. Ensure your shoulder blades also touch the wall, and your head is upright, looking straight ahead. Mark on the wall the point corresponding to the highest point on your head, then measure the distance from the floor to this point with the tape and record the result.

Basic Upper Body Measurements
Next, measure the chest circumference at its widest point, usually at nipple level. The tape should run parallel to the floor, going under the armpits and around the shoulder blades.

Then measure the waist circumference at its narrowest point, usually just above the belly button. Remember to breathe naturally during the measurement and not to suck in your stomach.

Detailed Measurements
Measure the neck circumference at its base, where a shirt collar usually lies. Leave a slight looseness of about 1 cm to ensure wearing comfort. During the measurement, the head should be upright, and the shoulders relaxed.
Determine the sleeve length by measuring from the shoulder point, through the elbow, to the wrist, with the arm slightly bent and hanging alongside the body. You can also measure the distance from the top of the inner armpit along the inner arm to the wrist for a more accurate result.
Measure the inseam length of the pants, starting from the crotch down the inner thigh to the point where the pants should end at the ankle.
Additional Tips
Make each measurement at least twice and compare the results. In case of discrepancies, measure again and take the average value. Keep in mind that uniform manufacturers may use different size charts, so always compare your dimensions with the chart of the specific manufacturer. If your measurements fall between two sizes, it is advisable to choose the larger one.
Military Uniform Sizes – Table
After taking all the above measurements, you can compare them with the size charts available on the product description pages. In our store, we always provide size charts under the sizes of a given product:
Below we present a size chart for the MaxPro-Tech WZ 2010 Rip-Stop - wz.93 Pantera PL Woodland uniform set. Sizes are marked with letters according to the international size system:
- XS (Extra Small) – very small size
- S (Small) – small size
- M (Medium) – medium size
- L (Large) – large size
- XL (Extra Large) – very large size
| Size | Jacket - chest width (cm) | Jacket - back length (cm) | Pants - waist width (cm) | Pants - total length (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 48 | 72 | 76 | 108 |
| S | 53 | 73 | 80 | 110 |
| M | 58 | 74 | 90 | 112 |
| L | 63 | 75 | 100 | 114 |
| XL | 68 | 76 | 110 | 116 |
If your dimensions fall between two sizes, it is better to choose the larger one, especially when the uniform will be used for intensive activity or worn over an additional layer of clothing.
Should the Uniform Be Loose or Fit?
A military uniform should not be too loose or too tight. A uniform that is too large may look unaesthetic, which is important during service, and also can easily snag on obstacles during duties. Meanwhile, a uniform that is too tight limits freedom of movement and makes tasks more difficult. A properly fitted uniform provides full freedom of movement and allows for performing basic activities, such as:
- raising arms fully above the head;
- bending the elbows at a right angle;
- squatting with a full range of motion;
- taking steps with an increased range;
- sitting freely.
