Opinel Nomad Picnic Plus with Knife NO.8 Picnic Set

In collaboration with designer Franck Fontana, a functional cutlery set was developed based on the iconic folding knife Opinel No.8. With the addition of a fork and spoon, the classic tool gains new versatility. The Viroblock mechanism allows for quick and secure attachment of accessories to the folded knife – simply insert the selected element into the ferrule and turn the locking ring.

Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel, microfiber pouch

The metal components are made from hardened Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel (hardness 58–61 HRC), renowned for its excellent wear and corrosion resistance. The handle, made from beech wood, combines durability with a comfortable grip and lasting quality.

The microfiber pouch serves both as a carrying case and a cleaning cloth for the set.

Opinel

MILITARY is a premium dealer of Opinel.

Opinel is a French brand with a rich history dating back to 1890, originating in the Savoy region. Its creator, Joseph Opinel, designed the first pocket knife, which quickly became a symbol of everyday use thanks to its simplicity and functionality. In 1955, the company developed the Virobloc locking mechanism, later modernized, which remains a distinctive feature of its products to this day. In 1985, the brand was recognized by the Victoria and Albert Museum, which included one of Opinel's models in its list of the 100 best-designed objects in the world. The company's products also found their way into the MoMA collection in New York. Production is carried out in Chambery with care for the environment – the wood is sourced from French forests and the resulting waste is used to heat the production facilities. The range includes folding tools, kitchen utensils, cutlery, and whetstones, which have become synonymous with durability, simplicity, and the French lifestyle.

In the Garden set, you don't have to turn the viroblock to keep the cutlery stable, whereas in the classic 'eight' model you have to close the viroblock – just a small note. It's a very practical solution.

A very practical cutlery set, especially worth buying together with Opinel No. 8 – together they make a great pair. I have the Opinel 8 Garden and the included cloth fits it perfectly – it's a clever idea.

A great addition to the Opinel knife – it'll be useful for camping, bushcraft, and even everyday use (because why let it go to waste :D ). The cloth is also practical, especially as it doubles as a case. The price-to-quality ratio is satisfactory.

It's a great complement to the Opinel No. 8 knife. The set includes a cloth you can pack everything into, although with it the whole set is a bit less convenient. I prefer using it without the cloth, instead of carrying it in my pocket, and the fork and spoon are a practical, compact addition for, for example, a backpack. Every Opinel fan will enjoy it.

The cutlery is surprisingly comfortable to use! The fork has great dimensions, whereas the spoon seems a bit too small for larger dishes, and at the same time slightly too big for smaller ones. However, it's a compromise that gives versatility – you can eat soup with it and also stir your coffee. I suppose it's a matter of getting used to it. The cloth, though not large, works excellently and also serves as a case for the set. The knife's lock secures the cutlery very well. The set is more picnic-style than typically for hiking, but it's definitely worth its price. The quality of workmanship and the materials used are at a very good level.

As soon as I saw this set, I had to buy it for my Opinel. The cutlery fits my knife well. I'm deducting a star for the rough finish on the edges of the spoon and fork – they're not sharp, but don't look very neat; for this price, they could have done better. The cloth fits both the cutlery and the knife, but again a minor issue – the elastic with the loop isn't placed perfectly in the corner, it's shifted to the side.

I've recently become a fan of the Opinel brand and systematically discover their new products. I was curious how this set would work in practice – it's a very convenient essential. The only downside is that if you want to use the knife and fork at the same time, you either need to buy a second Opinel No. 8 or use the fork without attaching it to the handle. I think I will order a second knife :)
