Patches with an openwork design are quite unusual and, in my opinion, have both advantages and disadvantages. Their main advantage is their very small thickness, which means they adhere perfectly and conform well to the surface. If you want the cut-out lettering to be visible, you should use a backing (velcro) in a different colour than the patch, but if you want the lettering to be less visible, you need to attach it to a coyote-coloured velcro, which some might consider a drawback. Nevertheless, the patch is very well made, has an attractive price and its use depends on individual needs.
