Mechanix Wear ColdWork Canvas Utility Tactical Gloves - Black

Black tactical gloves, crafted using advanced DuraHide technology. They provide effective protection against frost while also shielding hands from abrasions and cuts. The combination of 100g 3M Thinsulate insulation and a soft Sherpa lining traps heat inside the gloves while allowing moisture to escape, ensuring thermal comfort even in harsh weather conditions.

durable materials, EVA foam, Gunn Cut Finger design

The outer layer is made from durable canvas with a hydrophobic C6 coating, which repels moisture and offers resistance to oils. The knuckles are reinforced with 3mm EVA foam, effectively absorbing impacts. The palm side features water- and abrasion-resistant leather, made using DuraHide technology. To improve durability, the gloves utilise a Gunn Cut Finger construction, which repositions seams away from high-wear areas.

cuff with ribbing

A comfortable cuff with an elasticated ribbing ensures a secure fit around the wrists, offering enhanced protection against cold air penetration.

protective standards

The gloves meet the American protective standard ANSI/ISEA 105 at level 4XX in terms of cut, abrasion, and puncture resistance, which means:

  • 4: abrasion resistance (on a scale from 1 to 6)
  • X: cut resistance (on a scale from A1 to A9)
  • X: puncture resistance (on a scale from 0 to 5)

The gloves meet the EN388 protective standard at level 2223X in terms of resistance to mechanical hazards, which means:

  • 2: abrasion resistance (on a scale of 0–4)
  • 2: cut resistance (on a scale of 0–5)
  • 2: tear resistance (on a scale of 0–4)
  • 3: puncture resistance (on a scale of 0–4)
  • X: cut resistance – TDM test (ISO 13997) (on a scale A–F)

Cold protection complies with the EN511 standard at level 23X, which means:

  • 2: resistance to cold air penetration (on a scale of 0–4)
  • 3: resistance to contact cold (on a scale of 0–4)
  • X: water penetration resistance (0 or 1)

In the ANSI/ISEA 105 standard, abrasion durability is rated on a scale of 1 to 6 and refers to the number of cycles the material can withstand before wear. Cut resistance is classified on a scale of A1 to A9 (from the lowest to the highest level of protection). Puncture resistance is rated on a scale of 0 to 5 and indicates the force required to puncture the surface of the glove with a sharp spike (does not apply to needle punctures).

The scales specified in the EN388 and EN511 standards define the level of glove protection: a value of 0 indicates no protection, while the highest values (4, 5) indicate the maximum level of resistance. In the case of water penetration resistance, 0 indicates penetration and 1 indicates no penetration.

In the TDM (ISO 13997) test method, letter markings are used, where A indicates the lowest level of protectionand F the highest.

The X marking indicates that a given parameter was not tested or is not applicable.

I chose this product mainly because of the brand. At first, I felt the size was one too small. So far, they have worked well when scraping frozen car windows. I also miss a larger and sturdier loop for attaching a carabiner.

I don’t understand the popularity of Mechanix gloves. I’ve tested many models and almost always the thumb was too big. These gloves are so stiff, as if coated in concrete. I opted for the 5.11 Competition Primaloft Insulated tactical gloves instead, and they’re much better. Mechanix makes durable gloves, but their sizing and practicality leave much to be desired.

Very warm and thick gloves, perfect for frosty weather – another successful Mechanix glove purchase. They have a comfortable, soft cuff that is easy to tuck under a jacket sleeve. Splash-resistant, although not fully waterproof. Highly recommended!

At -10 degrees in dry conditions, the gloves performed great. I haven't had a chance to test their water resistance. They are very warm, but you need to choose the size carefully – for me it differed from Mechanix's summer models (from M to XL).

The gloves seem solid, but for me they turned out to be too thick and too tight. Size XXL, yet it was still difficult to get my hand in. I advise trying them on in a brick-and-mortar shop before buying.

The gloves are well made, nicely stitched and thoughtfully designed. They have a defined cold resistance rating – that's important information. For me, they work in frost down to -15 degrees even during long hikes and don’t get soaked. I like the cuff over a wide ending, but that's a matter of taste. The downside is an incorrect website description regarding touchscreen capability – it doesn't work in these gloves. They are quite thick, so not suitable for highly precise tasks.

Very warm and thick gloves, perfect for frost. Another great pair from Mechanix. They have a comfortable, soft cuff that is easy to tuck under a jacket sleeve. They are splash-resistant, but not fully waterproof. I am very happy with the purchase and recommend them.

Unfortunately, they’re not suitable for frosty days. At -5 degrees, your hands get cold after just 10 minutes, and at -1 degree after twenty. Old, marketplace gloves have similar insulation.

These are my first gloves that are so warm. The thick filling may make gripping a bit difficult, but at -5 degrees and in wind my hands were well protected from the cold.

Very warm, excellent during severe frosts. They don't get soaked.

Great gloves – very comfortable and warm. Unfortunately, they’re not suitable for snow as they get soaked, but apart from that they’re excellent.

This is a very good brand—I already have two pairs in heavy use and they work great. This time I bought them for my son – so far he’s very satisfied, they’re very warm and well-designed. I recommend them.

Solid and warm gloves, they have a practical cuff instead of a Velcro. I recommend them.
