Exped Sim 3.8 M Self-inflating Mat - Black

The self-inflating mat in black colour, made of 75D recycled polyester, which is distinguished by increased abrasion resistance. The mat is covered with a TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) laminate, which further increases the durability of the material. With an insulation level of R-Value 4.6, the mat effectively protects against cold and uneven ground.

The model features a thermal insulation coefficient of R-Value 4.6, determined in accordance with the ASTM F3340-18 standard. This parameter defines the level of insulation from the ground - the higher the value, the more effective the reduction of heat loss.

R-Value interpretation used in the outdoor industry:

• 1.0-2.0 - use in summer conditions (night temperatures above approx. 10 st. C),
• 2.1-3.5 - use in spring-summer-autumn (approx. 0-10 st. C),
• 3.6-5.0 - cool conditions, around 0 st. C and sub-zero temperatures down to approx. -5 /-10 st. C,
• 5.1-7.0 - winter use, temperatures below 0 st. C,
• above 7.0 - winter conditions with increased insulation requirements.

Actual thermal comfort depends on the sleeping system (sleeping bag, clothing), ground type and the user’s individual resistance to cold.

The interior of the mat is filled with lightweight polyurethane foam with a density of 14 kg/m3, providing thermal comfort with an R-Value of 4.6, which corresponds to use in temperatures as low as -15 deg. C. A flat valve allows for quick filling and emptying of the mat.
