Exped Sim 3.8 M Self-inflating Mat - Black

Self-inflating mat in black, made of recycled 75D polyester characterized by abrasion resistance. In addition, the material has been coated with TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) laminate. An insulation rating of R-Value 4.6 provides effective protection against the cold and uneven ground.

The model features a thermal insulation coefficient of R-Value 4.6, determined in accordance with the ASTM F3340-18 standard. This parameter defines the level of insulation from the ground - the higher the value, the more effective the reduction of heat loss.

R-Value interpretation used in the outdoor industry:

• 1.0-2.0 - use in summer conditions (night temperatures above approx. 10 st. C),
• 2.1-3.5 - use in spring-summer-autumn (approx. 0-10 st. C),
• 3.6-5.0 - cool conditions, around 0 st. C and sub-zero temperatures down to approx. -5 /-10 st. C,
• 5.1-7.0 - winter use, temperatures below 0 st. C,
• above 7.0 - winter conditions with increased insulation requirements.

Actual thermal comfort depends on the sleeping system (sleeping bag, clothing), ground type and the user’s individual resistance to cold.

The filling is a lightweight PU foam with a grammage of 14 kg/m3, so the mat has an R-Value of 4.6, which corresponds to thermal comfort down to -15 deg. C. A flat valve allows for quick inflation and deflation.
