Flying Tigers is the informal name of the First American Volunteer Group (AVG), established in China in 1941 at the initiative of Claire Lee Chennault. The unit was composed mainly of American pilots who conducted combat operations against Japanese air forces, supporting the Chinese military aviation. The traditions of this legendary formation are continued by the 75th Fighter Squadron of the U.S. Air Force, which inherited the name, colors, and symbolism of the Flying Tigers.
