Zippo has become a permanent part of pop culture, appearing in over 2,000 film and television productions, such as Die Hard, X-Men, and Hairspray. The distinctive sound of the lighter being opened was registered as a trademark in 2018. In 2007, the company presented a modern approach by introducing the Zippo Blu line of butane-powered lighters, while retaining the classic design and sound of the original models.
