The jacket works great in unfavorable weather conditions. It effectively protects against wind and rain, and the additional lining provides warmth on colder days. The material seems durable, and the whole thing gives the impression of good quality. The cut is comfortable and doesn’t restrict movement, even with several layers of clothing underneath. The second-generation ECWCS waterproof jacket is crafted from a three-layer laminate that offers superior protection against wind and water. Simultaneously, the material is vapor-permeable, minimizing the risk of overheating during physically demanding activities.
The jacket's outer layer is composed of 96% polyester and 4% elastane. Inside is a breathable polyurethane membrane. Beneath the jacket, there is a removable, warm fleece liner. This liner makes the jacket suitable for wear not just in fall and spring, but also in winter. The Wet Weather model includes a snow apron to block snow from entering beneath the jacket.
The jacket is outfitted with seven pockets:
- two large hip pockets featuring waterproof zippers,
- two sleeve Velcro pockets with waterproof zippers,
- a sizable pocket with a Velcro closure in the back of the liner,
- two zippered side pockets in the liner.
The jacket is fastened with a two-way YKK zipper, further secured by a double strap. Airflow is enhanced by underarm vents, which are closed with zippers.
The high collar and hood offer effective protection for the head and neck against cold and wind. Cuffs are adjustable with Velcro, allowing for a fit that accommodates the user's wrist size and thickness. All seams in the outer jacket are sealed.
WASP I is an avant-garde line of PHANTOMLEAF® CIV-TEC® camouflage patterns developed particularly for MIL-TEC®. PHANTOMLEAF® camouflage designs are generated through advanced digital image analysis of the intended operational environment to provide effective camouflage. The algorithm also considers movement and additional variables, resulting in patterns that adapt across various conditions. PHANTOMLEAF® camouflages maintain distinctiveness for reliable identification among a group of soldiers on the battlefield.
The WASP I Z1B variant is most effective in rocky terrains with sparse vegetation, such as tundra or mountain regions above the tree line. It is also advantageous in urban and industrial areas where concrete and steel are prevalent. Its effectiveness persists even with partial snow coverage.

The jacket bought on 12/1/2024 is well made and has practical, waterproof zippers in the pockets. The fleece is warm and has slightly shorter sleeves than the jacket, which is an advantage – they don't get wet in the rain. I had this problem with my previous jacket. I’ve worn it for two winters and it's just fine. :-) The only downside is the lack of a hanging loop for the jacket after detaching the fleece – the loop is only in the fleece. Overall, I recommend it.
