The aluminum housing is a big plus – you can immediately feel it's a solid tool and not a plastic toy, so it will easily withstand hitting a rock. The dial is clear, the needle sets instantly, and the gray color looks modern and is less conspicuous than the typical olive. For using a map outdoors, you don't need anything more.
