Helikon-Tex Patriot Fleece - Black

The Black fleece jacket with a zip fastening provides efficient thermal insulation in cooler climates, while facilitating the release of extra heat and moisture that accumulate during intense physical exertion. The Helikon-Tex Patriot version is crafted from high-density fleece with a mass of 380 g/m2. Its roomy design accommodates additional layers underneath, such as lighter sweatshirts or thermal attire. The slightly elongated back effectively protects the kidney area from wind, and the jacket's overall length is optimized to allow easy access to pockets and equipment on the belt.

Breathable fleece

The fleece is comprised of 100% quick-drying polyester, weighing 380 g/m2, offering excellent thermal insulation and efficient airflow. With these characteristics, the material effectively draws moisture away, ensuring the body remains warm. The fabric is notable for its longevity and resistance to mechanical wear, making the jacket ideal for challenging settings like hiking or tactical missions. Reinforced elbows enhance durability against abrasion and extensive use.

Adjustable hood

A spacious, enclosed hood delivers effective protection against cold and wind, enabling comfortable wearing of a winter hat without limiting movement freedom. The integrated soft brim protects the face from dripping water, enhancing comfort during adverse weather. The hood is permanently affixed to the collar, providing complete neck coverage when used. Elastic drawcords allow for the hood's adjustment, enabling a precise fit to the user's head shape and current needs.

Roomy pockets

The jacket features six large and expertly crafted pockets:

  • two chest pockets
  • two shoulder-height sleeve pockets
  • one pocket on the left forearm
  • one pass-through pocket at the back above the hips

All pockets are secured with sturdy and dependable YKK zippers. Zippers come with fabric pull tabs for easy operation, even with thick gloves. Inside the chest pockets, there's a section for a phone and cable openings, such as for headphones.

Velcro panels, adjustable cuffs and elastic waistband

Each shoulder is fitted with Velcro panels for affixing patches, unit insignia, or Morale Patches. The sleeves have hook-and-loop adjustable cuffs, allowing precise wrist fit adjustments. The jacket's lower section features an elastic drawcord that effectively blocks cold air from entering from below, preserving warmth.

    The recent cold weather prompted me to buy this piece of clothing. It's wide enough that I can easily fit a sweatshirt, sweater, or fleece underneath, though it can be hard to put a jacket over it, so I usually wear it as an outer layer. The pockets under the arms are fine, although overall there are more pockets than I would prefer, and I haven't yet found a use for the one that goes across the back – sometimes I put gloves or a scarf there. The fleece is very warm, comfortable, has a good hood, and the color is nice. Highly recommended.

    I own the MK2 version of this fleece which I really like but I was always really interested what the first version was like. This version is a little thicker than the MK2 and there for slightly warmer I also think that this version is maybe a bit better for backpacking if your pack has a hip belt because the pockets are well positioned to allow you to access them still. I actually prefer the cuffs on this version as they are adjustable and sizing wise I have the MK2 in 3XL and this version ins 2XL and they both fit perfectly. Highly recommended I will be taking this on a camping trip next week and I am looking forward to using it.

    Polar Patriot is incredibly warm and comfortable – it performed great during several more challenging trips. The back pocket with a zipper (accessible from both sides) turned out to be very practical, even when I needed to carry some small groceries. It's worth having something for your neck on hand in case the collar doesn't provide enough insulation. The whole product is well made, and a few of my friends are already using it too.
