Opinel is a manufacturer that has long been valued by folding knife enthusiasts. The Opinel No.12 Slim Beech model stands out for its elegance, lightness and great practicality. Its slim shape and quality materials make it an excellent choice for people who care about both appearance and comfort of use. However, you should pay attention to the quality of the blade and tip, as they can sometimes be unevenly finished.
Opinel No.12 Slim Beech folding knife
Light folding knife from the Slim series, featuring a 12 cm locked blade. A classic from the French manufacturer with over a century of tradition. The Trailing Point blade is made of stainless steel Sandvik 12C27M and polished to a high gloss. The blade is profiled with a full flat grind, close to zero-grind, which, combined with the thin blade thickness, ensures exceptional cutting properties. The knife is excellent for filleting.
simple and reliable Virobloc locking mechanism
The knife opening is facilitated by a notch on the blade, similar to Victorinox pocket knives. In the open position, the blade is secured by the Virobloc locking mechanism, patented in 1955. It is a steel ring on the handle located near the blade's pivot point. After opening the knife, it needs to be rotated a few degrees to cover the blade opening in the handle, which prevents the blade from moving. The same method secures the knife against accidental opening when folded.
shaped handle made of beechwood
The handle is made of beechwood covered with a clear, abrasion-resistant lacquer. It is ergonomically shaped, providing a secure and stable grip. An advantage of the handle is its potential for modification. The simplest form would be drilling a hole for a lanyard at the back of the handle. It can also be given any texture, carved, and stained in a chosen colour.

MILITARY is a premium dealer of Opinel.
Opinel is a French brand with a rich history dating back to 1890, originating in the Savoy region. Its creator, Joseph Opinel, designed the first pocket knife, which quickly became a symbol of everyday use thanks to its simplicity and functionality. In 1955, the company developed the Virobloc locking mechanism, later modernized, which remains a distinctive feature of its products to this day. In 1985, the brand was recognized by the Victoria and Albert Museum, which included one of Opinel's models in its list of the 100 best-designed objects in the world. The company's products also found their way into the MoMA collection in New York. Production is carried out in Chambery with care for the environment – the wood is sourced from French forests and the resulting waste is used to heat the production facilities. The range includes folding tools, kitchen utensils, cutlery, and whetstones, which have become synonymous with durability, simplicity, and the French lifestyle.
