Opinel No.12 Slim Beech folding knife

Light folding knife from the Slim series, featuring a 12 cm locked blade. A classic from a French manufacturer with over a century of tradition. The Trailing Point blade is made of stainless steel Sandvik 12C27M and polished to a high shine. The blade is profiled with a flat full grind, similar to zero-grind, which, combined with the small blade thickness, guarantees exceptional cutting properties. The knife works excellently for filleting.

simple and reliable Virobloc lock

The opening of the knife is facilitated by a notch on the blade, similar to Victorinox pocket knives. In the open position, the blade is secured by the patented Virobloc lock from 1955. It is a steel ring on the handle placed near the pivot point of the blade. After opening the knife, it should be turned a few degrees to cover the blade hole in the handle, which prevents the blade from moving. The same method secures the knife from accidental opening after folding.

profiled beech wood handle

The handle is made of beech wood covered with a clear, abrasion-resistant lacquer. It is ergonomically profiled to provide a secure and stable grip. The advantage of the handle is the possibility of modification. The simplest form will be to make a hole for a safety lanyard at the back of the handle. It can also be given any texture, carved, and stained in the chosen color.

Opinel

MILITARY is a premium dealer of Opinel.

Opinel is a French brand with a rich history dating back to 1890, originating in the Savoy region. Its creator, Joseph Opinel, designed the first pocket knife, which quickly became a symbol of everyday use thanks to its simplicity and functionality. In 1955, the company developed the Virobloc locking mechanism, later modernized, which remains a distinctive feature of its products to this day. In 1985, the brand was recognized by the Victoria and Albert Museum, which included one of Opinel's models in its list of the 100 best-designed objects in the world. The company's products also found their way into the MoMA collection in New York. Production is carried out in Chambery with care for the environment – the wood is sourced from French forests and the resulting waste is used to heat the production facilities. The range includes folding tools, kitchen utensils, cutlery, and whetstones, which have become synonymous with durability, simplicity, and the French lifestyle.

Opinel is a manufacturer long appreciated by folding knife enthusiasts. The Opinel No.12 Slim Beech model stands out for its elegance, lightness, and high practicality. Its slim shape and quality materials make it a great option for those who care about both appearance and user comfort. However, it's worth paying attention to the quality of the blade and tip, as sometimes they can be unevenly finished.
