I have this model and I bought the bit kit for it (I put it on the Phillips screwdriver). In this configuration, it’s probably the best option Leatherman offers – a saw, a file, a set of bits and pliers with a replaceable cutter is fantastic for me.

The blades are made from 420HC stainless steel, hardened to 55-59 HRC. This material demonstrates corrosion resistance, high crack resistance, and ease of sharpening. The other tools are made from high-quality stainless steel. The tools have been finished using the Bead Blast method, giving them a uniformly matte, satin-grey appearance without light reflections.
The multitool frame is made of 420 stainless steel, valued for its excellent corrosion resistance and high impact resistance. 420HC is a high-carbon version of 420 stainless steel, containing 0.4-0.5% carbon and 12-14% chromium. Thanks to its higher carbon content, it achieves higher hardness (55-57 HRC) and better cutting properties than standard 420 steel, making it ideal for the production of outdoor, hunting, and everyday knives. The steel is characterized by very good corrosion resistance, high fracture toughness, and ease of sharpening, which increases its versatility. It is a material with a favorable price-quality ratio, making it a popular choice for mid-range knives. With proper heat treatment, 420HC can achieve properties comparable to AUS6 steel, but at a more affordable price.
420
420 is a martensitic stainless steel often used in cutlery, especially in kitchen knives, EDC, and budget outdoor models. It is characterized by a relatively low carbon content (0.16-0.25%), which allows for a hardness range of 54-57 HRC, ensuring easy sharpening and resistance to chipping. Chromium (12-14%) provides good corrosion resistance, making the steel suitable for use in humid conditions. The multitool is solidly made, with no looseness; it operates quite stiffly and firmly, which in my opinion indicates durability. Ideal for everyday use, but it will also cope outdoors. The serrated blade and pliers are particularly useful.
