Such a jacket will keep you warm throughout the winter but can also be used in slightly warmer periods. For this purpose, it features a liner that can be detached when you get too warm. In turn, the large number of practically arranged pockets makes this garment very spacious.
The M65 uniform system served American soldiers during the winter seasons, from the 1960s until 2009. A huge advantage of the M65 system field jackets over its predecessor, the M51, was that they had a windproof collar, which proved very useful during the Vietnam War in the cold monsoon seasons. It was the men's M65 jackets that achieved almost cult status. They gained wider fame and became embedded in mass culture after the screenings of such legendary films as Rambo: First Blood with Sylvester Stallone and Taxi Driver with Robert De Niro. The jacket was also present in Polish films and TV series, to mention the character of Lieutenant Borewicz played by Bronisław Cieślak in the series 07 Zgłoś Się (07 Come In).
Historically, the jacket was made from NYCO fabric, a blend of 50% cotton and 50% nylon. Today's manufacturers remain faithful to this composition. The jacket was also waterproofed with Quarpel, effectively protecting against water. Four colour variants of M65 jackets were introduced for the US military: olive green (OG-107), woodland camouflage, desert camouflage (3-Color Desert Pattern) and UCP (Universal Camouflage Pattern).
