The beginnings of Sordin date back to the 1970s, when the development of mechanized forestry in Sweden led to the first hearing protectors. In 1976, Vikmanshyttans Plastfabrik was established, which was the direct predecessor of Sordin. Under the Sordin brand, the first products appeared on the market in 1987. From its inception, the company focused on above the neck safety – protecting hearing, vision, and producing industrial helmets.

In 1987, Sordin launched the Sordin Classic model, which became a breakthrough in hearing protection and is regarded as a standard of durability and effectiveness. In 1995, the company introduced its first electronic hearing protectors, moving the production of these advanced models to Värnamo in southern Sweden. In the following years, Sordin expanded its offerings, undergoing various ownership changes, including being part of the American MSA group for some time, and then returning to Swedish ownership. In 2022, the brand acquired the Italian company Shothunt, specializing in in-ear hearing protection.

Development and Market Position

For over 30 years of operation, Sordin has established itself as one of the most important global producers of protective equipment used by uniformed services, the military, sport shooters, and professionals working in challenging industrial and forestry conditions. The company employs about 100 people, and its annual turnover reaches 20 million euros. Production facilities are located in two places: Vikmanshyttan (passive models) and Värnamo (electronic models).
