Leatherman ARC Talos Multitool

The Leatherman ARC multitool is the first on the market to feature a blade made from modern powder steel CPM MagnaCut. This design gives the blade excellent edge retention, high durability, and very good corrosion resistance. Sharpening this steel is much easier than with other alloys of similar hardness. The blade is coated with a black PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating, providing additional corrosion protection and reducing glare.

The Talos version features arms coated in Cerakote in brown. The product comes with a 25-year warranty.

Solid stainless steel framework, FREE technology

The construction and tools are made from 420 stainless steel, which has undergone specialized heat treatment, ensuring each element has optimal hardness. The multitool arms are coated with Cerakote in brown, offering high scratch resistance and providing corrosion protection while minimizing glare.

The Arc model features FREE technology, which includes magnetic inserts placed in the arms to stabilize the tool in the folded position. The carefully selected magnet strength and precise component fit allow for easy one-handed opening of the multitool.

main blade made from CPM MagnaCut steel

The Arc model is notable for its knife blade made from CPM MagnaCut stainless steel resistant to dulling, a feature virtually unheard of in typical multitools. The use of high-quality steel combined with the ability for one-handed opening makes the Leatherman Arc a viable alternative to classic folding knives. This steel combines high wear and corrosion resistance with an optimal level of toughness. The blade is hardened to a hardness of 60-63 HRC and coated with a black PVD coating. A thumb stud on the blade facilitates its opening.

Easy opening, Tools equipped with a lock

The deployment of tools in the ARC model is extremely simple—just gently push the edge with your thumb to slide them out from between the arms, then select and deploy the tool you wish to use.

All folding tools nestled in the arms are secured with internal locking system locks, ensuring smooth operation and reliable locking.

CPM MagnaCut feature
CPM MagnaCut
CPM MagnaCut is a stainless tool steel developed by Crucible Industries and produced using powder metallurgy (CPM). It is characterized by high strength, high wear resistance, and very good corrosion resistance, despite its relatively low chromium content (10.7%). The steel is comparable to the best tool steels, such as CPM-4V or Vanadis 4E, offering high resistance to cracking and chipping. Thanks to the use of free chromium and carbides formed mainly by vanadium (4%), CPM MagnaCut is less brittle and resistant to abrasion, even with a hardness of 60-64 HRC. In addition, the presence of niobium (2%) and molybdenum (2%) ensures stability at high temperatures, making the steel ideal for harsh working conditions. The composition of CPM MagnaCut also includes 1.15% carbon, which ensures adequate hardness and edge durability, making this steel valued in the manufacture of tools and weapons.
420 feature
420
420 is a martensitic stainless steel often used in cutlery, especially in kitchen knives, EDC, and budget outdoor models. It is characterized by a relatively low carbon content (0.16-0.25%), which allows for a hardness range of 54-57 HRC, ensuring easy sharpening and resistance to chipping. Chromium (12-14%) provides good corrosion resistance, making the steel suitable for use in humid conditions. Silicon and manganese additives (up to 1%) improve strength and hardenability, while low sulfur and phosphorus content reduce the brittleness of the material. 420 steel is valued for its high corrosion resistance, relatively high impact strength (resistance to cracks and chipping), and low processing costs. Thanks to its ease of machining and polishing, it is popular in the production of low- and mid-range knives.
Cerakote feature
Cerakote
Cerakote is an advanced ceramic-polymer coating applied to knife blades to increase their durability and give them a distinctive appearance. It forms a thin, opaque layer that does not alter the geometry or balance of the blade, while ensuring high durability. Its matte, non-reflective finish, available in a variety of colors, makes it a popular choice for tactical and outdoor knives. The coating is resistant to impact, chipping, and abrasion, effectively protecting the steel in demanding conditions. In corrosion tests (Salt Spray ASTM B-117), it retains its properties for thousands of hours, protecting the blade from rust and oxidation. It is also resistant to chemicals, including cleaning agents and solvents.
PVD - Physical Vapor Deposition feature
PVD - Physical Vapor Deposition
PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating is a modern technology for applying ultra-thin layers of metal in a vacuum, which significantly increases the durability of knives. Thanks to this, the blade becomes highly resistant to scratches, abrasion, and corrosion, while gaining a matte surface that reduces glare. This process allows for aesthetic finishes in various colors, from deep black to gold, which do not wear off like classic paint. As a result, the knife retains its great appearance and full functionality even with intensive use.
Leatherman FREE feature
Leatherman FREE
FREE technology from Leatherman is an innovative system based on internal magnets that allows for smooth, one-handed opening and closing of tools. The elements automatically move into the correct position, which increases convenience and speed of use. The design eliminates traditional springs, making the tool more durable and resistant to wear and tear. All tools are easily accessible from the outside, without having to unfold the multitool.

The model is solidly built, compact, and the new magnet system works very well. However, I have some doubts about the price – it seems a bit too high for the materials and mechanism used. I’m looking forward to the All-Black version and the option to easily replace worn tools.

A very well thought-out and solidly made multitool. I have used various Leatherman models before, and each of them impressed me with their build quality. In my opinion, the biggest advantages of this model are: high manufacturing standard, easy access to all tools even when the device is closed, practical functions, and intuitive operation thanks to the FREE technology. The case included in the set also fits the multitool perfectly in terms of size. A small downside is ergonomics – because the tools are accessed from the outside, gripping the multitool firmly is not the most comfortable. There are also no spring-loaded pliers, which may be inconvenient for some, but you can live without it. :) For some people, the high price can also be a drawback, as it’s really quite significant. Reviews often mention that, in terms of quality, Leatherman and Victorinox are unrivaled – and this model definitely confirms that opinion. I think it was a good purchase and I don’t regret the money I spent.
