The wax flowed between the fibers and filled in the hollow areas, creating a layer impermeable to water and air. Unfortunately, it turned out that fabrics prepared in this way were hard to sew, and even harder to wear, due to their stiffness and unpleasant texture. In later times, when leather again became the primary material for clothing, the oiling of jackets and pants began, which prevented water absorption, made the etched leather shine, and softened it.

In the 20th and 21st centuries, many new technologies and many ways to create men's and women's waterproof pants have emerged, and the old ones have proved insufficient, inadequate, or expensive. Who would take leather pants to the woods or sailing in our time, instead of dedicated warm and lightweight clothes.
