Carhartt

Carhartt is an American clothing brand known for producing exceptionally durable workwear. Over the years, its clothes have become popular not only among physical workers but also among people who appreciate solid craftsmanship, classic style, and practical everyday solutions.

Origin and Beginnings of the Brand

The Carhartt brand was founded in 1889 by Hamilton Carhartt in Detroit, Michigan. Initially, the company operated in a small sewing room, with only two sewing machines and five workers. Its main goal was to create workwear for physical workers, especially railroad workers and industrial laborers, who needed clothes resistant to harsh work conditions.

Development and Expansion

Carhartt quickly gained recognition thanks to the high quality of its products. Within the first 20 years of operations, the company expanded to other cities in the United States and also began expansion to foreign markets, including the United Kingdom and Canada. During the Great Depression, the company had to downsize, but its products did not lose popularity and experienced another boom during World War II. In the 1980s, the brand also gained recognition outside the physical workers' environment. It became popular among New York subcultures, especially among hip-hop artists and streetwear communities.
