A ferrocerium firelighter works by vigorously rubbing the firelighter rod against the sharp edge of a spark plug. This causes the cerium in the rod to oxidize and ignite. One movement of the flint produces sparks with a temperature of 3000°C, which, when they hit the prepared firelighter, create a flame even in freezing temperatures or heavy rain.

No problem getting sparks. Its biggest advantage is the length of the fire starter, although not all of the surface is usable—the lanyard is positioned in a way that’s a bit annoying and actually shortens its usefulness (even after removing it, there’s a hole left).

Good firestarter, but keep in mind the large size. I've tested several other brands, and this one performs quite well. At this price, it's definitely worth buying. I recommend it.

I am disappointed with the Hultafors fire starter. It turned out to be very brittle during use. It fell from a small height onto a stone and broke at the mounting hole. This type of equipment should be more durable, especially for outdoor conditions. Unfortunately, Hultafors did not meet my expectations in terms of sturdiness and reliability. I do not recommend it to those looking for a durable and strong fire lighting tool.

This is a really good fire starter, it sparks exceptionally well. It has a thick and large rod. A cotton pad ignited immediately after one spark. I think it will work great in the field.
