Woodland, also referred to as U.S. Woodland or M81, is a traditional camouflage design that was introduced to the U.S. Armed Forces in the early 1980s, derived from the earlier ERDL camouflage. It served as the primary pattern for the U.S. military for more than twenty years, until the end of the first decade of the 21st century. This pattern is distinguished by large, irregular shapes in hues of green, brown, beige, and black, offering excellent camouflage and distortion properties, especially in forested environments. Due to its efficiency and worldwide recognition, it has inspired many variants that have been adopted into over 60 uniform systems globally. Additionally, the pattern significantly influenced popular culture, transitioning from military use to everyday fashion.
