Mechanix Wear ColdWork Original Tactical Gloves - Black/Grey

Insulated gloves in Black/Grey are crafted for low-temperature environments. They provide strong protection against frost while shielding hands from scrapes and cuts. The gloves are designed to fit well, offering a firm grip without hindering precision in movements. This model is ideal for survival adventures, workshop duties, DIY activities, and ASG or paintball sessions.

Durable softshell, C40 3M Thinsulate insulation

The design with thick fleece provides warmth and comfort, while the outer softshell layer effectively blocks cold air from seeping in. With the inclusion of C40 3M Thinsulate insulation, these gloves deliver excellent thermal comfort, even in extreme weather conditions.

Durable synthetic leather, touchscreen compatibility

The palm is crafted from synthetic leather, known for its exceptional durability and precise handling. Extra thumb reinforcement with Armortex material boosts its damage resistance. Designed for touchscreen operation, these gloves can be used without taking them off.

Convenient hook-and-loop closure, anatomical stitching, snap buckle

The hook-and-loop closure, crafted from thermoplastic rubber (TPR), ensures a customized fit for the wrist. Furthermore, the gloves feature a snap buckle, allowing them to be clipped together for convenient transport and storage. Comfortable wear is guaranteed by the anatomical stitching.

EN388-2111X and EN511-22X standards

The gloves meet the protective standard EN388 at level 2111X in terms of mechanical hazard resistance, which means:

  • 2: abrasion resistance (scale 0–4)
  • 1: blade cut resistance (scale 0–5)
  • 1: tear resistance (scale 0–4)
  • 1: puncture resistance (scale 0–4)
  • X: cut resistance – TDM test (ISO 13997) (scale A–F)

Cold protection complies with the EN511 standard at level 22X, which means:

  • 2: resistance to convective cold (scale 0–4)
  • 2: resistance to contact cold (scale 0–4)
  • X: water penetration resistance (0 or 1)

The scales used in EN388 and EN511 define the level of glove protection: a value of 0 means no protection, while the highest values (4, 5) indicate the maximum resistance level. For water penetration resistance: 0 means penetration, 1 means no penetration.

In the TDM (ISO 13997) test, alphabetical markings are used, where A indicates the lowest protection and F the highest.

The designation X indicates that the parameter was not tested or is not applicable.

The gloves are well made, comfortable, and provide warmth, though they stop protecting when the temperature drops below -15 degrees. I first bought the L size model, then tried XL hoping they'd be better for very cold weather, but it turned out the right thumb in XL is too tight. So I recommend visiting a store and trying on different pairs before buying, as the sizing and stitching are not precise. The inside of the palm is covered with a material that ensures good grip, sufficient for work outdoors or handling equipment. Time will tell how long they last – in other gloves from this company this material wore out, but after 2 months I don't see any signs of wear. Touchscreen support works, though I can't say how useful it is – typing in gloves is very difficult.

After a few weeks of using these gloves, I can say that during higher physical activity or light work, like shoveling snow at -6/-8 degrees Celsius, they provide good protection and warmth for your hands. However, when I stop moving or the exertion ends, they quickly turn out to be not warm enough, and my hands start to get cold. You also have to remember that resistance to cold is individual, just like blood circulation and each person's ability to maintain warmth in hands and feet in freezing conditions. That's why the feeling of warmth from gloves is a very subjective matter, depending on the situation and not just the temperature.

They are short, but if I intend to use the watch for navigation, they have to be like that. They are rather suitable for everyday use, for walks, rather than for more intense work. At -5 degrees it was comfortable, but at -10 degrees definitely not.

I am very disappointed with the quality of Mechanix gloves. After just one day of use, the seams started to come apart and the fleece quickly became pilled. I used the gloves exclusively for operating heavy equipment, so they were not heavily abused, yet they turned out to be not very durable. They are only suitable for walks without touching anything – poor grip and uncomfortable to work in. The heating function at –3°C didn’t work at all, as my hands were cold. In summary: poor quality, low durability, and ineffective heating – I do not recommend these gloves for work or colder days.

The insulated version of Mechanix gloves is basically no different from the standard ones – they work great for light tasks where good dexterity is important. Unfortunately, for heavier work, they wear out quickly and are not very long, so they don't protect the wrist well.

Gloves fit well. I am between sizes so I undersized due to dexterity preferences. It was a little short but long jacket sleeves could cover it. It does not keep my hands warm below 0°C but it's fairly decent in milder weather. Sufficient dexterity to work zips.

Very good gloves, solidly made, they offer appropriate thermal insulation in relation to their thickness. They provide good feel and effectively protect against cold. They are so satisfactory that I decided to buy a second pair in the fast fit variant.

Great gloves. I have both versions – the ones with the Velcro and the fast fit – and I use them depending on my needs. When I'm wearing a larger watch or I want the gloves to stay on securely, I go for the ones with Velcro. If I need to put them on and take them off often, don't have a big watch, or want them to cover my wrist more, I use the fast fit. The touch screens work flawlessly.

A few weeks ago I purchased the Mechanix Wear ColdWork Original - Coyote gloves. Despite the insulation, they offer quite a stable grip and do not slip on held objects. On cold days, they provide good protection against the cold. However, they are not intended for very low temperatures—in such conditions they will not provide full protection against the cold. I believe they are a reasonable compromise between insulation, insulation thickness, comfort of use, and a price corresponding to the product's quality.

The gloves present very good quality and look great, fitting the hand perfectly. They are not intended for severe frost, but will protect your hands well at around freezing temperatures. Very comfortable to wear, I was afraid they would be too small, but they are just right.

Mechanix to Mechanix I bought another pair of gloves from this brand, this time for winter. They are very well made and fit the hand perfectly. Warm, yet they provide good ventilation. They perfectly combine insulation with precise movement. Highly recommended. As always, the service and order processing time at Militaria are top notch.

High-quality and comfortable gloves, nicely insulated and in my opinion, suitable down to -5°C, and with active hand movement, down to -10°C. I recommend them to everyone as a fairly lightweight model of insulated gloves. Very comfortable, quality item, and in my view, there are no downsides.

The gloves are very durable and provide a lot of warmth. They fit the hands perfectly, do not restrict movement, and work great both during work and for everyday use on colder days. I highly recommend purchasing them.

I have a very positive opinion about the ColdWork winter series from Mechanix. I first encountered them in 2019, buying the Original series just after it was introduced. At first, I was skeptical because I had previously only used wool-leather gloves. However, the high-quality synthetic materials, such as thick fleece, Thinsulate, and Armortex, deserve recognition :D The gloves fit the hand very well, provide a good grip, and thermal comfort even down to -5 or -6 degrees (of course, depending on the humidity level). When you're not moving, your hands might get a bit cold, but while working, they retain warmth and insulate well. The newer version has improved fit and material thickness, which I consider a huge plus, and I can honestly recommend them. The only drawback is the weak clip for holding the gloves together – it breaks easily and is not very durable.

The best gloves I have had so far. Not only are they made of genuine leather, but they are also exceptionally warm. Size L fits me perfectly. You shouldn't go bushcrafting without something like this. Clear purchase recommendation from me. Top product!!
