Maskpol Softshell SM-01 Jacket - MAPA

A tactical jacket with a modern character, sewn from Softshell material with additional inserts made of uniform fabric in MAPA camouflage. The SM-01 model is a great choice for survival enthusiasts, tourism, ASG, and recreational outdoor activities. Although aimed at civilian users, it will undoubtedly also be appreciated by professionals in uniformed services. Thanks to its multi-layered construction, this jacket effectively protects against wind and rain, eliminating the need for additional warming clothing.

Durability is provided by a polyester laminate, PTFE Teflon membrane, and Rip-Stop weave.

Softshell constructed from three-layer polyester laminate, which includes:

  • an outer weather-resistant impregnated knit,
  • a middle PTFE Teflon membrane,
  • and an inner insulating lining made of fleece fabric.

Elbows, shoulders, and the drawstring tunnel are reinforced with US-23 uniform fabric, which is a durable blend of cotton and polyester in a 50/50 proportion. Thanks to the applied Rip-Stop weave, the material is durable and resistant to abrasion and tearing.

3 functional pockets

The jacket includes 3 functional pockets: two large side pockets and one smaller chest pocket, fastened with zippers. The interior of all pockets is finished with airy mesh material.

cuffs with elastic trim, drawstring with stopper

The cuffs are finished with elastic trim, and the bottom part of the jacket is equipped with an elastic drawstring with a stopper, allowing for adjusting the width to the silhouette and protecting against drafts.

Zipper

The whole jacket is closed with a solid, one-way zipper, which ends with a high collar with a chin guard. For increased thermal comfort, ventilation holes are placed under the arms.

velcro panels

On the sleeves, there are 2 large velcro panels, allowing for attaching any emblems, such as insignia, national flags, unit emblems, or so-called Morale Patches. A velcro for a name tag is placed on the right chest.

Main features

  • soft, polyester material
  • middle PTFE Teflon membrane
  • Rip-Stop weave
  • reinforcements with US-23 uniform material
  • three lockable pockets
  • chin guard
  • elastic cuffs
  • adjustable jacket bottom

MAPA camouflage

MAPA camouflage pattern was designed by Maciej Dojlitko, a graduate and current research fellow at the Faculty of Architecture and Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, and author of, among other works, Theory of Deconstruction of Communication. Tools for designing military camouflage (Gdańsk 2015). This innovative design, backed by compelling theoretical and empirical arguments, including a computer analysis of thousands of photographs of the terrain, has caught the attention of specialists and military clothing manufacturers. In 2017, the MAPA camouflage made its debut at the International Defense Industry Exhibition in Kielce as the camouflage pattern for the Dromader accouterments and uniform system by Maskpol, a company part of the Polish Armaments Group. The system was designed for Territorial Defense Force soldiers, but the MAPA camouflage itself was also considered as a prospective pattern for the entire Polish Armed Forces, where it could replace the wz.93 camouflage. Unfortunately, the MAPA camouflage has not yet been adopted as the official camouflage pattern of the Polish Army.

Main features of the MAPA camouflage in its basic forest variant:

  • 6 colors forming layers resembling contour lines on a map
  • colors optimized for operations in Central European forests
  • use of three-dimensional illusions and anamorphic effects
  • biomorphic shapes making the pattern resemble vegetation
  • high-contrast elements imitating flashes of light and shadows
  • deformation of the camouflaged silhouette using a macro-pattern
  • color noise recreated using a micro-pattern

The MAPA pattern is an interesting alternative to the best contemporary camouflage patterns such as PenCott, MultiCam, Kryptek, Flecktarn, and the Finnish M/05. In some respects, it is more advanced than these, and it also better replicates the colors found in Central European forests from late spring to early fall.

The jacket is very comfortable, it actually feels like a sweatshirt. For warmer days it may be too thick, so a light windstopper will come in handy. Maskpol should improve the sizing, especially the sleeve length, which is too short.

The jacket is perfect for autumn's cool winds. Since it is windproof, it's warm. In winter, it's enough to add a fleece and it's still comfortable. It's great that you can get it in MAPA camouflage :)

The softshell jacket is very well made. I've been using it for some time now and I'm very satisfied. The jacket provides a lot of warmth. The MAPA camouflage looks much better in real life than in photos. I highly recommend it.

Overall, the jacket, or rather sweatshirt, is very well made. The material is good and the camouflage is attractive. The sweatshirt is quite thin, so on colder days it’s worth putting an extra warm fleece underneath. I deducted one star for the small number of pockets—for me, it would be useful to have some on the shoulders and at least one on the forearm. I think this would also improve its appearance.

Great jacket, works perfectly in autumn and winter. Effectively protects against wind. The only downside is the difficulty with choosing the size, as the sizes run slightly small.

This is more of a sweatshirt than a jacket, but the workmanship is perfect. I ordered a size smaller than I usually wear and it fits perfectly. If the price were lower, I would buy two — a smaller one as a sweatshirt and a larger one as a jacket, so that I could put something thicker underneath, but unfortunately I can't afford two such purchases.

It works great for winter together with a sweatshirt and a thermal shirt. It's just a pity that the jacket isn't fully covered in camouflage.

The camouflage looks good, the jacket is warm, but I would rather describe it as a fleece. I recommend size XS, it fits a person who is 158 cm tall.

It's hard to call this a jacket or softshell—it looks more like a fleece. Size S is a bit too wide, but the sleeves are fine. It's comfortable and good to run in, so I can recommend it.

Great jacket—warm, breathable, with ventilation openings under the arms. It has a nice color and camouflage and the size is well matched. There are hook-and-loop panels on the shoulders for patches. I definitely recommend it.

I always had concerns when ordering Maskpol clothing that I wouldn't get the size right. When analyzing the size charts, you get the impression that the clothes are too tight... and here's where I'd like to reassure future customers. Example: I took a jacket in size M. The chart lists 100 cm under the arms, but in reality it's about 112 cm, so there's some extra room. For a chest circumference of 100 cm, the jacket is comfortable.
