The best Leatherman I’ve ever had. Much more robust than the Wave or Charge, it combines the ruggedness and stiffness of the SuperTool 300 in a compact body comparable to 91 mm Victorinox knives. The pliers are comparable to small Knipex pliers (0822145), but the Rebar has better wire cutters. The plain-edge blade is comparable in size to a 91 mm Victorinox, but it cuts much better (it has a hollow grind), and cutting ergonomics are better too (on the Victorinox, the sharp edges of the aluminum liners between the tools, as well as the tools themselves, dig into your hand, whereas with the Rebar I’m holding a beautifully smooth, rounded handle. On top of that, unlike the 91 mm Victorinox, it has a lock. A chapter of its own is the brutally robust Phillips screwdriver, one of the best tools Leatherman has ever come up with (compared to the thin sheet-metal ones on other models), and you can fit a holder for full-size 1/4" bits onto it if that matters to you (personally, I prefer carrying a separate bit holder). Because of the black oxide finish, it’s really stiff right out of the box, and the blackened surfaces on a new multitool really do rub off, but all you need to do is wash it with warm water and dish soap, dry it, lubricate it (which any normal person would do with any other knife too, including Victorinox knives—I’m not a pig, I’m not going to slice salami with something that’s passed through the hands of 30 people at the factory), and then open and close it for a while once it’s lubricated. Within an hour it breaks in and works beautifully. The price on military.eu is unbeatable compared with other stores. There’s no sheath included in the package (with a pocket tool this tiny, I don’t mind; nobody is going to carry something this small on a belt, though with a SuperTool 300 I probably would mind). There’s no “certificate of authenticity” sticker on the box, which in any case has nothing to do with Leatherman as a company—it’s an invention of a Czech reseller. Military.eu is a Polish store, so it makes perfect sense that it isn’t there. But don’t worry: Leatherman’s 25-year warranty is valid worldwide regardless of some sticker invented by a Czech reseller.
