Hultafors Ekelund Axe

An incredibly sharp axe with a mirror-finished blade. You can immediately tell it's not an ordinary market product. The handle is contoured, the head has protective ears, and the whole set is topped off with a great leather sheath. Additionally, it's packaged in a way that makes it perfect as a gift. I recommend treating everything with linseed oil and finishing with wax, and you can wrap the handle under the head with paracord for even better protection of this already valuable axe. After such preparation, working with it becomes pure pleasure, and the tool can even serve as a decoration. I definitely recommend it!

What more can I say... this is a real axe! True, it costs a lot, but I haven't felt this satisfied with a purchase in a long time – just unboxing the product brings excitement, and it only gets better after opening it. People talk about ideals among women but the perfect axe definitely exists! The blade is incredibly sharp and shiny, it can easily slice cold cuts into thin slices – honestly, some of my kitchen knives aren't this sharp. The beautifully polished edge stands out from the rest. The handle wood is top quality, fits perfectly in the hand, and is very sturdy. The leather sheath protecting the blade looks fantastic. Amazing – I'd give it 6 stars!

I searched for a long time, read reviews, and decided on the Hultafors Ekelund – handmade and you can see the quality right away. In times of cheap Chinese products, such an item is rare – for people who value naturalness, I can only recommend it. It fits perfectly in the hand. When hesitating between the 37.5 cm length, I finally chose this model and it was a bullseye – great for forest trips. In Militaria I found the best price, and thanks to loyalty points I paid a third less than the market value. I recommend it!

I will update my opinion after the initial tests – the Ekelund axe effortlessly splits prepared pieces of wood, even logs with a diameter of 15–20 cm. It really surprised me in a positive way. The head mass (850 g) and length of 50 cm help with this. It had no trouble chopping through a felled tree with a 25 cm diameter. Thanks to the slightly curved blade profile – typical for hunting axes – it bites into the wood perfectly. After this work the blade got a little dull (it doesn’t shave hair anymore), but it still cuts paper. For the first few days I oiled the handle at night with linseed oil, which gave the color some depth – although it was already well protected from the factory. The model is excellent – perfect for camping and home use, although for splitting greater amounts of firewood specialized axes are better. Ekelund is a great companion for hiking.

The axe is perfectly made, with great attention to detail – the left patina and forging and hardening marks add character. The contrasting, oiled hickory handle and the solid thick leather (about 3 mm) sheath make the whole thing very thoughtful and stylish. I’m really impressed – I expected it to be good, as fits a premium product, but the end result exceeded my expectations. I considered choosing the smaller Hultan, but the Ekelund hunting version turned out to be a bullseye. The Hultan is a bit too small, this model is perfect – not too big, not too small, and comfortable to carry, e.g. in a backpack or on a belt. As a hunting axe it has a rounded head that makes skinning game easier. It comes very sharp, as is standard in the Hultafors premium series. In my opinion, it's the smartest choice among all the Hultafors premium axes – practical for everything and at a great price.

I couldn't imagine a better axe, it's amazing, I sincerely recommend it.
