UCP (Universal Camouflage Pattern) emerged at the dawn of the 21st century as the successor to both the US Woodland and Desert patterns. This digital camouflage integrates functionalities suited for diverse environments such as forests, deserts, and urban areas. To achieve this, it combines shades of green and beige with gray. Derived from the MARPAT layout, the spots form a pixelated micro-pattern using pastel, low-contrast colors, ensuring effective concealment at close range while blending into a single silhouette at longer distances. UCP demonstrated significant effectiveness in infrared detection, justifying its adoption. However, it was eventually replaced by the OCP camouflage, inspired by the MultiCam design.
