This is one of the most compact camping solutions available on the market. It takes up very little space in your backpack, which allows you to pack all your essential overnight gear—even in winter—into a 20-liter backpack (tested with a Snugpak 6 Kestrel sleeping bag rated for comfort down to 0°C and a midi self-inflating mat from the same brand). In summer, you just need to combine the bivy with a blanket for the same comfort. The net over the head, attached to a cap with a visor, and tightening the string in the bivy’s hood efficiently protect you from insects. After securing it like this, there is a small opening through which you can breathe freely. I haven’t had a chance to use the product in the rain yet, but I intend to test it. If the waterproofing declared by the manufacturer proves true, I’ll use the bivy regardless of weather conditions. It's worth adding that there’s always a challenge with getting in and out of the bivy during rain—it's hard to avoid getting the interior and all your equipment wet. The only way to avoid this is to set up a poncho or tarp over the bivy. However, as a minimalist, I avoid carrying unnecessary items. When I take the bivy, I leave my poncho and tarp at home. So what to do when it rains? How to protect your sleeping bag and mat? The best option is to find natural or artificial shelter, such as a sprawling tree, a fallen log, a shelter, a playground piece, an outdoor gym structure, or an overpass. If you look carefully, you can always find suitable rain cover. Finding one can be an interesting challenge in itself. I definitely recommend this product due to its exceptional compactness and simple construction. It’s a great choice for fans of minimalism and stealth camping—gear worthy of special attention.
